this is how my "gems" usually turn out.. takes about 1 minute to do...
keep in mind it's embedded, not a sphere...

I made this one when i used to experiment with photoshop, but i quit on this one because i couldn't get those rings to look any better, i was trying to get that particle effect of them flying around the orb, it didn't work out. Can anyone help me on this one? Kind of like that SBC logo of the infinity, how it flys in a circle. Or like at this site

use the rings as selection, fill them with a gradient, drop the opacity, draw or use a brush to create some little rocks"particles" around inside the rings selection. Add some motion lines. and voila!
