is there any way for a flash movie to control others?

what i'm trying to do is have a website with multiple flash movies and i want to be able to tell another movie to load or play when a certain button is pressed. can i do this while still keeping the control movie on the same page?

I have been checking out several books and Web sites, and none of them mention of being able to control flash movies that are independent of the main movie. You can pass variables via CGI to a local file and have another movie access it if that is what you mean. CGI is not worth the hassle for what you are trying to accomplish, that is, control the navigation portion of several movies.
