Hello all. Been a while since I posted anything on Kirupa.

I'm having a bit of a problem. The issue seems to be I'm about as useful with Illustrator CS4 as an [insert topical analogy here]...

I'm currently attempting to design a kind of retro wedding invite (for myself and my partner) and have an idea of some hand drawn kind of motif. I was thinking I might then just take some quick photos of this and somehow, magically, paths would appear in illustrator from which I could basically cut and shut something that didn't look like I was a complete tool...

I appear to have failed.

Could anyone offer me some quick, easy steps that any drunken oaf might be able to follow in order for me to achieve anything like what I just described...

I have access to:-

A large sketchpad
12 papermate Flairs (http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=papermate+flair&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=12270043699280239738&sa=X&ei=MbIQT7DDCcqv8APg_53IAw&ved=0CGMQ8gIwAw)...
A computer
Photoshop CS4
Illy CS4
An Android phone with an ok camera
A fairly substantial quantity of german (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erdinger) and more german (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weihenstephan_Abbey) lager...
About 14 Marlboro lights...
A small (20cm) remote controlled helicopter that is currently fully charged...

If anyone knows of a search term I can put into google to make this magically happen then please, feel absolutely free to LMGTFY me... I would be happy to click said link.

Over and out...!

:worried: You're short on the Marlboro lights...

Are you aware that you can download custom brushes that will draw stuff like this fairly easily?
Google it to find new sources.
http://vector.tutsplus.com/articles/web-roundups/a-huge-compilation-of-60-free-illustrator-brushes/

You then have to learn how to use the pen tool.
It's a little crazy at first, but it gets easier once you know the pen tool keyboard shortcuts.

Basically, you draw a path, then stroke it with a custom brush. That's how many professionals do it.

GL and congrats!

or you can go into Illustrator and type out some Glyphs and then create outlines from them and you could play with their paths...

Try these fonts:
Adobe Caslon Pro
Adobe Garamond Pro
