I figured the obnoxious title would draw some attention to this thread so here goes:
I'm doing fairly poor in math, I have about an 82 right now. That's not really where I want to be since I'm a Junior in High School and I need to get into a non-crappy college and what not. My teacher allows us extra credit if we do some sort of extensive project involving math. For instance, someone did some thing with his batting average over like 12 weeks and charted the results and compared it to like 50 billion people and such. That's just one example though.
What I'm asking from is suggestions. I haven't the slightest idea of something to do for my extra credit, so if you have an idea, I'm all ear... errrr... eyes.

FRACTALS!!
Rob Penners book has a lot of stuff on Fractals and Chaos theory, and you do own the book... ;)

I don't think I can :*(
Chaos theory sound interesting, I'll look into that.
psssst, did you make the link button for your site yet?
Anymore suggestions?

Also a good idea.
I think I'm going to do something with the chaos theory though since I have absolutely no clue what it is, but I like the word chaos.

you could do a statistical analysis of this website
get with the K man, and tally up total members, average posts per day/week/month -
maybe a demographics thing, users under so and so etc.
get a total hit count, i don't know...just a thought...
something along those lines

galaxygoo.com has some friendly math forums. Might be able to find something in there.
(not too popular I dont think... got to them from an offshoot from WH and maybe posted about 10 times total heh).
could cruise some posts for some ideas maybe :-\

Read the 3D in Flash tutorial :P
Create a graph drawer based on the parameters you fill in or something ...

Haha that's funny sen.
So I just did some very brief research on the chaos theory and am having troubles relating it to math in a feasable way. Basically it just confuses the FK out of me.
The graph drawing thing is a good idea. I don't know anymore, ahhh my little brain hurts. :*(

I did my senior year Calc thesis on Fractals. It takes some work but it is very cool. I compared fractals to things that occur in nature. But you can do chaos theory, and other things with fractials.
Cheers!

So would I need a good understanding of calculus to do that?
Right now I'm in a class that is right before preCalc.. so I'm a minimum of 2 years before calculus..
Hrmmmmm.. math confuses me :)

You would need to know soe Calc to explain how fractals work, but I would think you could find something to do with them that wouldn't require a lot of calc. :nerd:
Cheers!

it might be a little late for an idea but how about you find out the average food intake of a person in the US on a minutely baises and then compare it to a person in the UK or in europe?
