I'm FINE with my 1.6 GHz chip and my year old laptop. Besides - next computer I get is going to be a Mac anyway!

10GHz would be crazy though ...

Why? You can't use the full capabilities of 2 ghz yet let alone 10.2 ghz.. When are they going to worry about the bus port transfer speeds.. I think they are at 800 mhz now.. That's the maximum that data can be transferred..

If I'm correct.. I dunno though.. That's the last thing I read about some week or so ago..

a point the apple folks have been saying for some time...

if you can't get the power in and out any faster than the front side bus speed, the ghz diff. of the processor beyond that is pretty much pointless...

..ergo, the ghz 'myth'

yeah well I heard in about a year or two maybe more they will be comming out with not ghz but thz(Tetrahertz)

Isent that crazy

Yeah... But Thz would be useless for now.. Currently the bus port speed capabilities are not equipped to handle that much speed or data... So, if your processor is running at 1024 ghz and your bus port speed is only handling 1024 mhz... Then there ios so much wasted effort..

But it would be cool for gloating reasons ;)

pentium 4C (200MHz FSB with DDR400 Dual Channel)
theoretical, there is a maximum bandwith of 6.4GB per second...
calculated by the RAMClock * 8bit * 2(Double Data Rate) * 2 Channels

so you can easily calculate you maximum bandwith useing your FSB
EG: My FSB is 266MHZ (my RAM is running at apro. 213MHz)
so i have a max. bandwith of 213*8*2*2 = 6.8 GB per second from CPU to memory or vice versa...

with the new DDR500 Modules and a FSB of 250 you can have a maximum bandwith of 8GB/s witch is an enormous increase...

i can clock my cpu with a max. of 412MHZ which is a total fsbspeed of 1648MHz FSB (quadpumped)!!!
if you have memory, which can hold this enormous frequenzy you would get a bandwith of aprox. 13.1GB/s... :x

but that is atm impossible... ;)

Understandable Dessoya... Don't we all wish we could gte in the ghz of bus port speed right now?! :)

ROFL again SEN that picture ROFL ROFL

---

They are going to run out of speed in under 10 years I think...Moore's law has its limits

I think that's why alternative computing methods are being researched...you guys seen that flextronics junk? or the dna computing for example...

Amazing to think what will be in 20 years.

I think a big problem with computer technology moving so fast is it makes games developers increasingly lazy. Most games nowadays are not properly fine-tuned and optimised to run on a wide a range of machines. They simply assume that everyone has a monster PC. Leaving us poor, lowly users with no games to play :(

ou have a very good point cowboy.. And it should be strewn across to people... I udnerstand where you are coming form in that.. I use to have nothing but low end machines and it was always a pain in the *** trying to play any new games :(

no ****, they tie in some sort of alienware ad with it and expect you to pay 50 bucks for a game and go buy a 2500usd system to play it on. good call asphalt, where ya been?
