Domains

I'm lookin to pik some brains about domains (hey that ryhmes!)

I want to start an online business but I need some things cleared up.

Say for example :

website.com

If I came along and bought:

web-site.com

Would the owners of website.com have any right to tell me to take my site down and change my domain as its so alike theirs?

How about if website.com had nothing on it and the domain owner was just sitting on it and not using it?

How about if it was different countries? like .co.uk instead of .com

Hope someone can clear these things up... Is there anywhere people can check out Internet law?

well... I think that if you own a domain then somebody might just wanna buy it from you... it's not illegal to have a website.net if there already is a website.com... and if you just have a domain with nothing on it and you're paying for it then I think the only thing anyone can do is just buy it from you...

if the domain name YOU want is free, go ahead and buy it.

if THEY get pissy, there's nothing they can do. Other than buy it from YOU, which means YOU will make more money! ;)
