I just wanted to share with you all a new article I made, properly titled "Sanity." It shows the several ways you can piss-off users when they are viewing your flash website. :m: Are there any more I should add?
In lue of my article, please participate in the poll on this thread.

definately no music controls. Anyone dumb enough to not allow for a way to turn off the music should be shot. I don't run into this problem often though so next on the list is full screen which is more common.

I hate 90% of the sites out, mostly because they are made with Flash by newbies with absolutely no experience in organization or sequencing the development process. Especially when they ruin good Flash site with poor graphics or sound.

I went with pop-up window. I can't stand those.

since you made it one choice only, I had to choose full screen because it's easy enough to turn down my volume and still see the site than to deal with being bombarded by unsolicited fullscreeness

man it is a tie between full screen and volume controls......nothing worse than a site that takes away my browser rights....and one that has this high energy techno crap slamming out that makes me panic and knock my mouse of the stand only to regroup and cannot find the volume. It is extra painful because I have this bose system.....:ouch:

I hate them all. but pop ups mostly because I run a blocker. and lauching the site usally involves reloading the site. pop-ups were the stupidest flash fad ever.

I'm with sen on this one, but i Had to go with the music controls.
I can always hit the esc button - turning off the speakers is something I shouldnt have to do.

God, so difficult to choose between the first three... :P
I hate sites that load in pop ups unless they're really worthwhile and I've asked for them, I hate no music controls (though if that happens I just turn of the speakers) and I hate full screen sites that wipe out every form of switching windows except for Alt+Tab...
I've gone with full screen. :)

I've thought of some other things for your list:
1. Mystery Meat Navigation
Sure, it may be 'innovative' and 'artistic', but users will get pretty hacked off pretty quickly if they can't make head nor tail of your navigation. Hidden menus, intelligible systems... Just terrible.
2. Clip Art
Don't even go there. There ought to be a law against this kind of thing.
3. Lengthy Intros
More precisely, lengthy intros with no 'Skip' option, that force you to sit there and watch some Godforsaken animation. By the fourth viewing, you long to throttle the designer.

I've added mystery meat navigation and long loading times to http://www.supree.com/hub/tutorials/flashMX/usability/sanity/index.html#6

I need to kill myself after seeing the webtek site. I think someone did it for a joke though, to see how utterly lame they could make it look.
I agree completely though, the animated gif commandment is true. I've seen all too many of these stupid things, kids call their "sites", which basically consist of 20+ animated gifs that come with the built-in geocities web maker or whatever they have now. :-\

if you mean http://www.geocities.com/webtekrocks/
yes, of course it was done for fun!
who the hell would make such a website for serious???
I remember some time ago, when there was the a-team melodie in the background, which made it even worse (+some more deadlinks)!
BTW: what do you think about chromeless windows?

There is no reason to use a pop-up. For the love of god, do these people not know about tables?? I usually have so many windows open that a quarter screen pop-up gets lost. As for music controlls i just hit the system volume, I can deal with that.
Kit: Clipart should be a capital offense.:hair:
