Hey there everyone,

Im on my way on making a preloader with a % right.. and everything is running smoothly.. Anyways, this piece of text comes along in the tutorial:

"Click on the graphics layer, and draw a text box in the center of the stage. In the ‘Text Options’ panel, select 'Dynamic Text' and type 'progress' as the name for the variable"

Now this text box is going to display all my variables (% loaded).. however when i test it, it doesnt display. The reason being is because i CANT find the 'text field' button.. I click on the "text tool" button, and im suppose to click another button that has "ab|" on it. But i cant find it.. and that is the button i need to make this work.. lol.. funny how the most smallest problems becomes the biggest... haha can someone PLEASE tell me where i can find it.

thanks heaps..

Jak..

Look in the Property Inspector at the bottom of the screen. You'll see three button next to eachother in the middle: one with "ab", one with "<>" and another one with a sheet on it. They're right to the Single Line - Multiline - Multiline no wrap dropdown box and to the left of the input field for the variable of that textbox.

Right click on your textfield and choose "Properties", it should all be in there.

Just select the text tool and then click and drag on the stage to make your textfield. I've not used Flash 5, but i'm pretty sure the way this works hasn't changed.

One thing I noticed with textfields in Flash MX is that if you make a static textfield and don't type text in it and end up clicking on something else (or just in an empty area) the textfield gets removed from the stage. Perhaps this happens in Flash 5 as well?

Also you can get the properties panel in Window/Properties. Actually I think I remember hearing it was under Window/Panels/Properties in Flash 5. Either way it's under the Window menu somewhere :P
