really piss me off!
I heard the (a?) remix of APC weak and powerless and it totally blew. And it was the 7th most requested song on a local radio station :-\
When they released all those Korn remixes too, that upset me. They totally took away from the original feeling and emotion of the songs.
I can understand remixes for like dance clubs and things of that such, but I have yet heard a commercial radio-play remix Ive liked more than the original. And its sad to think those songs will be remembered by those abominations and not the originals which the original artists had spent so much time producing.
Bah! :P

You still listen to the radio?
Thats what you get...

The only remix I have ever really liked was the punk version of "Boys of Summer"
The thing I don't understand about most remixes is that they feel obligated to tell you (repeatedly) that the version you are listening to is the remix. But casually mentioning it once at the beginning or end of the song isn't enough (in fact that would be too much, of course I know its the freakin remix you ***hole!). No they have to yell it
THIS BE THE MUTHAFUDGIN' REEEEEEEEMIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIX
I swear if I ever get that crackerjack box with the sniper rifle inside, I'm going on a killin' spree...

Actually, the band Reel Big Fish make some really good remixes.
aside from that, I don't really care for them either.

Kick bootay remix - Finch - What it is to burn (remix, duh)
One of very very few remixes I can stand. I like the linkin park remixes (reanimation) though. I would check out the finch one though mr. sen.

Yeah it is. It was obviously just them milking it for all it was worth, which I would normally hate, but it ended up being a pretty decent record in my book.

I swear if I ever get that crackerjack box with the sniper rifle inside, I'm going on a killin' spree... hey you know, some DJ took a bucket of his sh*t and dumped it all over Boys of Summer by turning it into a techno song. I seriously almost threw the radio when I heard it.
I hate when people turn normal songs into pop like that. Just pisses me off.

Senocular, there's a remix of Weak and Powerless on the Underworld soundtrack I'm pretty sure. Is that the one you're talking about? I haven't heard it since the movie isn't out yet over here (may not be out over in the US as well).
By the way, love Thirteenth Step! Haven't picked up any similarities to Lateralus though like you mentioned a few weeks ago... Speaking of Lateralus I read something very interesting about it the other day. It was about the fibonacci sequence and a different order of playing the tracks in. I can give you the link if you're interested. But it might be a case of "overanalysing..." too much. ;)

Thats probably the one :sigh: Its just saturated with pop-rock rhetoric

I still get the connection. Not as much as it might have seemed like I did ;) but I think its mainly just due to the fact that the songs can seem so inconsistent. I mean diversity is good, and it is for thirteenth step, but with tool albums you get a lot of oddball tracks thrown in... Aenima is probably the best example. On the second half of the album, every other track is just something nutty. They totally fit the album as a whole but dont stand alone as individual 'songs' With Thirteenth step you get some oscillating in the songs like that. Mostly I see dips with vanishing, crimes and lullaby. Granted, they arent german rants or crying babies, but theres some noticeable back and forth in song mood there.
Another thing, and I can see this a lot with the package and the noose (which I wakeup with in my head almost every morning :P), are slow lengthy lead-ins. Lateralus's best example is parabol and parabola. Technically two different songs (2 tracks) but parabol is just a slow leadin to parabola. (other songs behave similarly) These leadins are too, another contibuting factor of the inconsistency I mentioned before... and by inconsistency I dont mean un-related so much as just something like a tempo or mood shifting - that kind of thing.
Again, these are all generalized impressions. They are nothing specific and don't relate to lyrics or whatnot. when I first got the album, I just let it run in the background when I was at work and really wasnt able to pay attention to specifics; just got an overall album-feeling. And those are just some of the things that popped in my head. They could be completely unjustified, but those were the things that came to mind at the time so I guess its just how my head thinks :beam:
... and as for the link, that would be awesome if you could post that. Sounds interesting!

I turned on the TV the other day and flicked through the music channels. Suddenly I hear the strains of one of Nirvana's classics... Then bloody Destiny's Child singing 'Bootylicious' over the top of it.
I mean why?!? How can they murder such a fantastic song?!? :a:

yeh i know, really sucks.
do they have that song in england now too???
It started out as a joke (really bad one) of 2 belgian dj's. They got a ****load of that kinda songs.
anyway there are some good remixes too. Ever hear reel big fish remix of the tetris song :), dropkick murphy's with the wild rover, like a prayer remix from H2O, etc...

Next time I listen to Thirteenth Step I'll listen out for what you're talking about with those songs. I don't know about the lengthy lead in to the songs, there are other bands out there that do that too but maybe it sounds like a Tool like lead in rather than some other 2 and a half minute lead in :-\
Ok here's the link, just remember for anyone else that reads it, it may just be BS.
Good luck keeping your place in the text... you'd think he/she could have made it more readable with a few blank lines in between the text. :sigh: Let me know what you think and also if you decide to try listening to the album in the suggested order.

Well apparently they have the reputation of a band that supposedly harms your children... Do you check their website often? If not then you missed a site that popped up www.toolbandsucks.com. Basically it was a Christian group highlighting lyrics they thought were violent etc and also posted some thoughts of someone who regularly posts on the website (he was talking about the occult).
I'm pretty sure the site is no longer thankfully. They (Toolband) I think said that they had violated copyright laws by posting their lyrics etc! ::mumbles:: Idiots! ::mumbles::

2 many DJ's (soulwax) get them in your ears and you'll realise not all remixes are bad... in fact they are far from it... miles infact!

not all remixes are bad, but nirvana + destiny's child like they did is utter crap, ruined a great song

If you listen to a song you hate often enough, you'll find yourself singing along to it. Same can happen with remixes - its all a matter of selective social proliferation and the Man's decisions that dictate what you're exposed to in this world. If they want you to listen to remixes, they'll make it so and you'll begin to like it whether you like it or not
