Gaming News: GC now $99, HL2 delayed (etc)

Nintendo's GameCube SRP has been officially set at $99 which sets it to about what Gameboy Advanced is now selling for. yesterday Amazon and Toys R Us had reduced the price to $99 (online) and a MCV article today confirms it.

This gives the GC a $80 edge over the competition as it is well needed in a PS2 dominated market which can be seen here (gamespy)

Perhaps the lower price and the fact that not everyone yet has a GC could be adventageous for Nintendo this Christmas season.

Everyone's most anticipated FPS sequel, Half Life 2, has been delayed from its Sept 30 release (which is hella soon). They still expect a release in time for chistmas but a definite date is not yet available. Related link:

its not about the first or whos best i personally despise nintendo for making such a sucky console with the n64 and then making even a worse console the GC the lack of games on the system is friggin amazing i purchased a GC only to play Resident Evil and Residetn Evil 0 i hate capcom for making me do that but i cant live without RE, nintendos best time was the snes days now those were the good old days now i relive those days with my xbox n the emus i can run on it

Nintendo needs to innovate like they used to in the snes days they jsut keep selling u the same $h!t with nicer graphics and they need to get their head out of ther @sz and learn that without third party support they cannot survive no matter how bad any given game can be just my 2 cents

I still think xbox is the king of games right now......ps2 is barely holding on by their exclusve titles......Which Bill is trying hard to get those also....Every game that they share in common is ike 10 times better on XBOX.....As far as nintendo....I knew their days were numbered. $99 game cube spells final liquidation....GBA is what is keeping them around.

Microsoft just wanted another source of income. They saw the success of Sony/Nintendo so they jumped right on the bandwagon. They were lucky, I repeat, lucky that the Xbox caught on the hype. Take the outcome of the Dreamcast for example...

well xbox is just a superior product plain and simple....you cannot compare the systems.....Coming fresh out of the gaming industry I can tell you we have not even seen the tip of the iceberg when it comes to capabilities of the xbox. Dreamcast messed up when you were able to play burnt games with out manipulation....But I still play my DC. It opened the door for gaming also!

Like i said before teh DC was one of the most innovative and best consoles to date, it set the standard of what games should be, they introduced internet connectivity, multimedia interaction with voice and chat messages while you play agaisnt an opponet over the net and great games its such a shame it didnt recieve the attention it deserved but then again thats the hype a company can create for themselves and ironically nintendo is in this position ever since the n64 so dont be surprised if in the near future your playing marion on a MS or Sony console.

i do the same with my xbox i jsut reprogrammed it with a new dashboard and play whatever i want on it, and on DC the games were non bootable the first year or so then came the selfbootable games which rocked and i made a tutorial on how to make non bootable games selfboot which was posted on cdrom-guide a few years ago ahh teh memories the good old DC games.

i've made so many coasters trying to get a DC game to selfboot/work. then I realized that I had bought a newer DC model so basically nothing copied worked on it. Turns out most of the coasters worked perfectly fine on older models.

I absolutely love my DC still...And I'll own anybody at Street Fighter vs X-Men......Man I love that game...... And yes you are right they revolutionized the industry.....Just had too many glitches to keep up....

I have 2 wheels/pedals, so 2 can race against each other...

I just don't have many friends who like to play games... :(

Final Fantasy is not produced by Sony, it is published by Square-Enix. I am not sure why a RPG title would make you hate Playstation so much. Out of the many FFs to date, this is the first to spawn a sequal. Every other FF game has had a storyline unique to itself. Oh and the FF series was supposed to be exclusive to Nintendo when it first came out, too bad Nintendo screwed Squaresoft over, and they went to Sony instead. :thumb: Besides, Nintendo has been trying to play catchup for a while in the console market. Sega was the first major company to release a CD console, (SegaCD, yes I still have mine) Then Sony followed suit, but Nintendo didn't, they stayed with the cartrage system with the N64. Not till the Game Cube did they use optical Media, and then they chose not to use a standard format. Ever wonder why? I do... Anyhow I don't want to turn this into a bashing thread, just wanted to put some facts out there. =)

I could really get into this with Grim but I wont. I will say however that I agree that the DC was a fantastic console (except for the fact it was so **** loud) Xbox is the most advanced peice of tech out there right now in the home console market and is also a great machine (I own one as well). I will not agree that nintendo is crap and I never will. I have never played better games than those that were created by nintendo for their consoles. Sure a game like Splinter Cell or FFX come along once in a while and are fantastic but with a track record like EAD's you have no choice but to belive they are the best of the best - continually.

Nintendo wont die, you wont see mario on another system (not for a long long time anyway) and this new playstation hand held sounds great but it also sounds like you are going to need a generator hooked up to it to make it run for any length of time. Let's not forget that the GBA is coming to the end of it's life cycle and is going to have a brand new version availabe at the same time - if not sooner than the Sony version.

The original GB has a life of like 10+ years... seems GBA has lived such a short life in comparison

well - there was no competition - so they could milk it for all it was worth. They actually brought out the GBC and made it smaller but essentially it was the same system as the original :)

You are very right though - there really hasnt been much of a life cycle for it - it will only have been 3 1/2 years when the new ones get's released.

arent the GC game prices generally lower than the others by an avg of like $8 or something?
