i want to smooth out the borders, so the particles get transparent to the borders - so i dont have that ugly break in my movie... im completely stuck with the mask... i added a mask to the top layer, but it doesnt do the desired effect...

i attached the aep file with includes the psd for the grafik...

thanks in advance

ah k, well i dont have After effect 6 , ive only got 5.5 pro . Getting 6 soon though, the mask in the tutorial is basically another composition using the pen tool to add the mask. draw your mask with the curves like the tutorial.

Next to smooth out the mask , you go into the timeline (make sure your in the mask composition) and click on the arrow next to mask, you will see some options come down and you will be see the second one is mask feather, this is used to smooth out the mask. click on the link symbol to adjust both numbers at the same time.

if you could resave the aep for older after effects, it would be easier to see what your doing.

Wish i could, at the moment i havent got the time to try it out, ill see maybe tomorrow (its 3:02am here, lol ) By the way you can download the aep for that tutorial, its at the top at the link you gave, project zip / project sit (for pc get zip , mac get sit)

I've checked out that aep and it looks fine, be warned particle playground is very process intensive, takes ages to render or test, they mention something about this in the tutorial.

anyways check their aep out and see if theres anything you missed.

talk to you tomorrow, best of luck
