are you just trying to setup a blog?

No, I'm not trying to set up a blog (as in "Movable Type" or "Blogger"), but if I can set up one "News" type section that is updatable, then I am halfway to understanding how to create an administration tool to add records to a database.

My problems are many, but basically I think I've got it down to the initial step: creating and connecting to/updating a database. If I can't connect to a database, I sure as heck can't expect to successfully update it.

I'd like to find something really simple, like a PHPMyAdmin example of how to create this ultra simple database. Then, a PHP script with the correct path structure to update this database. And finally, a PHP script to retrieve and display.

Like, the simplest, almost useless script would be great!

I know how PHP works, I just can't *get* it to work. I know you can just stick it anywhere in your html and if it's written properly, it will GET things, POST things and PRINT things using a database and some forms. It seems insane to me that I can't get it to work.

well, basically you'll need to have a page that you would add links through, and another to pull the data off mysql..

I don't really get what is it that you exactly need help with =)
