View Full Version : Scripting A Candle Flame

Hey, new to the forums, but excited about helping and growing this nice flash community.

I am looking to produce a realistic candle flame. I can draw the flame in flash or photoshop, but need a little help with scripting the movement. I have seen a few example duplicating and shrinking the circle gradient, but that's not the route I want to go.

I want to randomly 'move' the flame MC, so it looks realistic. I'm wondering if there is some way to to send slow ripples through the graphic using sin waves or something? Just an idea....I am still brainstorming the best way to go about it, and would appreciate and enjoy some other ideas in the mix!

Many Thanks,
-Stirman

yeah. you could use sin and cosine to pseudo randomly move the flame around a bit but it would be hard to get a really realistic looking version.

cool looking flame effect and you can change the colour and wind speed.

Sorry to interfere here, but I'm not amused that you reverse engineer my code. "Reverse Engineering" is probably not the correct word - stealing is what I mean.

The code was never anywhere publicly available for a reason. Using an actionscript decompiler doesn't entitle you to publish it.

I like to decide myself which of my works I give away for free and which I don't. This is definitely a "don't".

I expect either the poster or a moderator to remove the sourcecode immediately.

Sorry for not taking it easy this time.

Oh and for the record:

1) I personally don't support actionscript decompilers

2) This forum doesn't support stolen anything, including code

and as ahmed said... tsk tsk Yeldarb :-\

Excuse accepted.

I'm currently working on an updated and improved version of the candle which hopefully will be ready before the candle season in a component version...

I'll keep you updated.

Cheers!

any chance you will post the source for the old candle when you get the new candle ready? ;)

In case I finish the candle component, you will see the source code of it anyway as soon as you install it. Still I would not like to see it published in forums.

heh yeah it doesnt have quite the same effect as quasimondo's but i made it in about 10 minutes... im sure i could mess around with some effects and make it better heh... i think quasi used some sort of thing with the elasticity formula... i just used some sine waves on the points...
