Seriously, asphault it right, I've dealt with suicidal friends far too many times that I care to remember. I talked to my friend on the phone for about 7 hours one time through the night as she tried to OD and I made her realize it wasn't worth it and listened to her puke her guts out for the remainder of the night. Talk. It's the best you can do.

I agree with asphalt and *twitch*

Just talk - don't say not to do it ... just talk - listen to what they have to say, and make them see it's not worth it

Thats true and Ive had to deal with it in the past... preventing and dealing with those who went through with it. It's a shame and it really gets to me. Do good for your friend BullDog.

Be supportive. Give light to the better parts of life. Be a friend.

a real sore point for me as well.. I've picked up the pieces a few times..

when they succeed they leave a lot of hurt behind and really screw up the minds of those who cared & loved them

somehow they feel that there is no way out of whatever it is that makes dieing seem a favorable choice

I think most people come close to this thinking at least once or twice in their lives (some alot more often)

hopefully you can help them see thru that there is allways a way arround their problems ...
(not easy tho once they're that convinced) ...
but it is all you can do.

good words guys,
talk and be there for them, they are looking for something to attach to

don't know how you feel about this, but there is a God who loves them when no one else does.

I wouldnt take myself out of the equation but, I fuloly agree that the person needs more help then just a friend can provide. They do need the friends nad family support in order to get and stick with the help that they truely need.

Dont procrastinate on this, go right to him/her. If they are telling you they are thinking about suicide, they have been thinking about it themselves for a lot longer.

Be a good supportive friend and get them the help they really need to move on and get back into the swing of life.

EDIT KIRUPA: This is a serious thread - create a new thread with that statement, and you will soon find out.

I hate those people. They always put me in a really depressing mood. I hate being depressed.

Reland,

I agree that most people come to the thought/brink of suicide at least once or twice in their lives. I almost think it natural;

What the hell is wrong with you two?! :h:

Its so not natural to consider offing yourself. In fact its just plain insanity.

A couple years ago in the same year four people that I knew.. two of them close had killed themselves.

It is the single most selfish thing one can do. Clearly they have no regard for other people with thier permanant solution to the temporary problem.

I have not and will not ever attend the wake/funeral of somebody that has taken thier own live. Not even an immediate family member.

Oh contrare my friend..

feeling really depressed about ones' circumstances is not so very odd or unnatural .... going thru to desparate measures with it is where the severe imbalance comes in.

I'm saying that most people 'snap out of it' before the thought has any real substance.

I certainly agree that not everybody gets that desparate, but it is not as uncommon as you suppose.

The depression that brings it on is very intense and thinking like 'you say' would only reinforce that there is no other alternative in the mind of the one considering it
(ie: if it is unnatural to feel that helpless & yet they feel this way - the only conclusion drawn is that theirs' really is a hopeless situation, ergo- no other way out) any ridicule of them for thinking that way is going to make them feel more alienated to life ('on top af all - I'm defective ???')

How we deal with things usually starts with how we feel (and some just get caught up in their feelings and don't think it thru)... it needs to be reasoned out and balanced with another perspective, seeing it from the third person view.

One of the most reassuring things for one considering death is the fact that lots of people have felt that way and didn't take the plunge, ergo- there is little that can't be overcome and their situation is not so very unique. Someone somewhere has gone thru exactly what they are going thru and made it.

I'm not just talking out of my hat, I've picked up the mess 'after the fact' a few times and also have reasoned a few back from the edge ... this is just my opinion from what I've been thru

I totally agree with you here.

I do not agree that almost everyone has contemplated suicide once or twice in thier day.

I get depressed as everyone else. I have had some incredibly pressing times as everyone else has.

I have never even had the thought of ending my life.

I have a few times contemplated ending someone elses.

  :skull: :skull:

***************

This is kinda a morbid idea, but what about an anonoymous poll posing very question?

Yup, I'm certainly sure some never do ... however that doesn't change the possibility that most (or at least a lot of) people have at least .... considered it... if only for just a brief moment.

Poll ?.. Morbid ?...perhaps somewhat...

prolly a good "ordered" topic

...yup, I've also considered a time or three helping put someone else out of my misery ....
..once upon a long time ago ;)
