Nice,
But, her left arm looks a bit like a paw. I understand what you are trying to do with it, but the absence of knuckles make it kinda a funny. Also her feet, I see you want to do the baggy look, then maybe you should include a break in her pants, so the dont look like curcuilar stumps! :beam:
Great job though.

Eilsoe - I'll mail you an ai file tonight if you like. :)

Uhm did you use traditional tools in drawing or you go directly to the computer to do your drawings? You have very clean drawings. Looks more vector! :thumb:

I put stuff into Photoshop afterwards. :) But this one was drawn and coloured with Illustrator, which is different for me. :)
IAnd it was a quick sketch that I scanned in and traced... I've tried drawing straight onto the screen and I cheerfully admit to being cack. :beam:

I love it when you do these things all vector, so smooth and nice
IMO I like it more than that photoshop colored one (I love vector art and the vector style in general, so that might be why ;))

I probably ought to do more pure vector stuff... I can just never seem to get the shading right, and I refuse to use gradients. :)

That's nice Kit, but I still think that drawing by hand is best because you have much more control over your drawing. Unless you have a PC tablet?
If you don't like gradients you can simulate it using 3-4 colors from shadow to highlight. You don't need them though cause your drawing style is anime/manga and it doesn't need much detail. [IMO]

I do have a Wacom (and I love it to bits), but it's at work and I tend to do most of my drawing from home. :)
I generally just draw a rough outline on paper first, if only to get the proportions right, then once it's scanned in, I can use either the mouse (or tablet if it's there) to go over the guides and to add details. So most of the detail work is done 'freehand', it's more the basic picture that's drawn in pencil...
You're spot on with the gradient issue. :) It's nothing against them personally I suppose, it's just I kinda feel like I'm cheating if I use a gradient fill to make something look highlighted / metallic / whatever. I prefer doing it with either (as you said) a couple of shades of a colour, or the Photoshop that I've adopted. :)
I'm lucky with the style though - manga doesn't need fantastically detailed shading jobs. As long as you get the shadows in the right place...

Kit I think you'll find this site interesting? http://www.howtodrawmanga.com/
That's the site of a popular regular book/magazine here in the Philippines! :thumb:
