The design concept itself is not bad, however, give this a try:
a{
outline:none;
text-decoration:none;
}
img{
border:none;
}

Not to sound like a noon. But why outline: none; ?
To my knowled that would have no noticable effect.
I do agree with removing the link underline however.

That style directive gets rid of that tacky dotted outline that you see around a link after you click on it.

Ah, that explains why I don't see any difference. I don't see that with my browsers. :lol:
That's good to know, thanks :beer:

And it breaks your sites accessibility. They didn't do the dotted borders thing just for the hell of it.
Your site is all over the place. The tiling background in the content area as well as the tiling vertical fram sort of thing both are very harsh and very noticeably tiling. The color choices are just wacky, dull brown, orange, translucent black overlays, white text, I'm not sure what you were going for there but it's very difficult to read and generally displeasing.
Somehow the navigation almost seems to get lost, I didn't notice it until the third or fourth look, it needs to be more prominent or better thought-out. The tag cloud is gaudy and poorly integrated. The header is okay conceptually, I like the idea of DaVinci'ing it up, but the execution is lacking.
I think you need to really consider the vibe that your site is giving off, the dull brown and white and black are odd choices at best. Honestly I'd simplify the whole thing, if you have to have a background image keep it subtle, the translucent overlays aren't functional and just feel like you did them because you figured out how to do them, and the entire visual hierarchy is just wacky.
Not trying to be a complete jerk, it just doesn't look like a lot of thought went into this. When you title your post as referencing the "theme" for your blog I question your motives, as you're not really building a theme, you're designing a website. I think "theme" has a cheap connotation so I'm curious why you chose that word.

Thanks for the input Nobody I am taking everything into consideration and I concede to a lot of your points (i've never had an eye for color).
As for why I said "theme" i used the term because thats what it's called in the wordpress admin panel *shrug* it still had to be "installed" as a them so thats the term I used for it.

I've simplified the design a little bit. Opinions?

Eh, screw the blind; they can't see the dotted lines anyway ;). I like they new layout, but i think that it would be neat if your paper texture continued all the way down. You could use the solid color on the content background.

It starts off at the top really good, i like the header. Then it's just kind of plain. The colors need more pop to them, instead of the same brownish hue for the text, just use black or perhaps a dark red. I think you could go with a rounded rectangle instead of square for the navigation and copyright part, or perhaps those could be images of some kind related to the header image.
Overall it's not bad and has a very nice feel to it, good work!
..and i like the name. ;)

A few more tweeks and I think its just about done. Right now i'm looking for a nice papper texture that tiles... so far no go.

Hmm... You have to find a balance between the text and the background images (for the header).

It's better, your there, just blend the header and the "paper" more, the headers bottom color should begin to be the papers color (so all of those images need to get that light brownish shade at the bottom, especially the one on the far right) and then the paper should fade out sooner and with more transparency. Overall it's pretty smooth. Perfect on the nav and copyright rectangles. :beer:

- Interesting stuff. Author Link needs to be more visible than that there. Matter of fact, I'd go darker with the text period, man.

I'm not a fan of the colour choices for the fonts, especially the title and subtitle. Or the choice of font for the title and sub-title. It should be graphic.
