View Full Version : New Type of Sticky?

I was thinking about it and it seemed like a good idea to make a help sticky for the topics that everyone asks for. For example, in the Flash MX forum, we could have in the sticky dynamic text masking, preloader information, how to attach sound, scrolling text info, questions that pop up over and over all the time because people don't search old posts or tutorial lists. Just a thought.

They won't work. Do you know how many questions are posted in the D&D section on how to do things and there is that GIGANTIC sticky in there with oodles and oodles of tutorial links that can help them out, but they refuse to look themselves.
People are just lazy, if they don't search for it, chances are they won't bother with the sticky either.

:-\ too bad. I've answered more questions on sound and preloaders than I thought possible.

LOL, oh trust me they get worse ;)
That is why I retired from preloader questions, I was answering a minimum of 3 a day... it was quite annoying :m:
There are like 4 preloader tutorials on this site, and about 50 million+ out on the web, but no one can ever find a tutorial on them... I find that very odd :sigh:

I think 99% of the preloader questions have already been answered before.
Its a matter of searching.

99% of them have been answer before, and the other 1% deals with adapting the preloader in a different way. But if a member fully understands how a preloader works, adapting it in any way is very easy, you just have to think of what you want it to do in correlation with how much is loaded (getBytesLoaded() does that for you!)

Well, sometimes the problem isnt understanding how the preloader works.
Its a mix of problems such as relative adress, paths, scope, etc...

Yeah, there are a ton of questions that evolve from addressing issues as well.
AS Tip #1: Know how to address your objects and functions! :beam:

AS Tip #2: Functions and Prototypes are your friends, embrace them with open arms!
Hehe.... well that's true, but that tip was still meant as a joke as well.... :)
Everyone here should know by now I am a function fiend.

I think that when starting to learn AS you have to go with Object Path Discussions. Most AS books start with Pathing.

yeah definately pathing. Half the problems people have are they use _root all the time.
