OK i am sitting there in the school mineding my own bisness. Sudenly some guy sits next to me. Ok i know him... But where not like m8's or annything. So he asks me. "They say you know Flash?" Well I look at him :-\ "Yea kinda", He goes on "They say your a master at flash.", "I am not a, master but i know my way around"

So he goes on he needs my help. Seeing stuff like 2advanced and looking at my site say he needs to learn it.

Bla bla bla WE go on. eventually i get his MSN and he want me to teach him. I mean flash.... You can learn it in one night. You need to dedicate half your life to it. ;)

But I am the only one that knows how to work with flash on my school of about 1600 students. So basicly I am the local "Ask him about flash and webdesigning info center" Personally i am getting sick and tried of it.

Do you get the same?

I get that all the time. My brother wants me to teach him Flash, but the truth is, I don't know enough flash to teach him about it! I'm still learning things myself.

I was the "smart kid" in school - really, that's what some of them called me because they didn't bother to learn my name. I'd always have people asking me how to do stuff, and had friends wanting me to teach them computers.

It might be annoying, but dude, if you're getting into the field of computers, it's something you're going to hear ALL the time. Get used to it now, get it all out of your system, or you'll drive yourself mad when you get into the working world...

A scary prospect. But I have been educating ppl for over the last 4 years. (since i started with flash)


There was one guy. I though him allot But he got kick from school. That would of been my replacement when i left school but now they will have to do without a flash expert.

I don't know how things work there, but around here when you do people favors like this they don't think of it as favors, they think of it as something they just deserve for no reason, and they are not in your dept. Not to mention... what can these people do for you that would make them usefull to be in your dept?

I know I used to be the goto guy for help at school, but I got tired of it because I would help so many people but get absolutely zip in return for my hard work. So, one day I just said no. I got a lot of complaints, but hey, it's not my fault they can't be self-sufficient, they started to rely on me to a point where they wanted me to do their work for them instead of helping them with their work. And well, that just isn't happening... not in my lifetime ;)

But you got to remember them of it. Come on you helped them. Not because you wanted to. So when they make a joke of you. You say "Dude i helpt you. Is that the way you play the game." He was silent. Now nobody messes with me. Nobody!!!

I have been doing "favors for ppl since i came to this school" Everybody owz me one. That way you could say i am a mob boss. I am allso the (you can get annything from him guy) I make deals and ppl do me favors and that is how it works around here.

now you may understand why you have to charge, even friends, for everything you do design - wise... If you don't, they don't place any value on your product, and that just leads to bad feelings from someone.

My group of friends now offer to pay me, before telling me of the project, and make sure to keep in touch all the time, not just when they need something. It took a while to educate them to the point they realize it is nothing personal, it's business. Now they know, and I am still their gotoguy, but now they offer to pay me more than my normal rate to get it done before any of my other projects...

be strong, be confident of your work, yet try not to sound c0cky...

Yeah that doesn't work that way around here either... hehe. If someone makes fun of you and say "hey I helped you" you get a "shut the f*** up" in return. Not really worth it ;)

Lucky for me I wasn't usually made fun of, those that did talk s*** about me were people I hated as well so I never helped them with anything. But then again, all of them flunked out of school and never graduated... so who really has the last laugh there ;)

In my school im the only one I know flash. They think I work free for them "the school" creating sites for all people.

yep i have the same type of senerio. My school is Dumb :+), the teachers are dumb, my pupils are dumb, i bet half of them can't even spell dumb. so if someone in my school knows of, heard of or even seen the word FLASH it's a miracle amongst miracles

LOL, I totally hear you. I built all of my computers (except my first one) and now everyone asks me for computer assistance or to build them one like I am a friggin computer genius.... all I did was plug some friggin things in, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to buy some parts and hook them all together on a motherboard :hair:

I don't understand you guys. Me personally I try and make it known that I can do somethings with computers that most people can't. I don't brag about it but I don't keep it hidden either. Thats really the only way that I figure I am going to get people to pay me to make a site for them. My site on the internet isn'tgoing to get any customers esspecially since there are so many other much better sites that they are going to find before comming to mine. So the only way I'm going to get clients is locally and the only way I am going to do that is through word of mouth.

I believe if you are gonna end up being known for being a Flash Especialist you should make a little fee like 120 dollars an hour or somthing, it whould scare them to pay that much and whould never bother you agian
