I got accepted to 2 programs, one at Humber College and Seneca College. I chose Seneca College (for some reason) and I found out that the program is pure c.rap! So I just dropped out. So now, I'm a college drop - out. Thank god I got my money back.

Now I'm shopping around for schools. And there are some career colleges downtown (Toronto) and I have an "interview" type thing tommorow at IAOD, but I asked her what the tuition is.. she says 14 000 +! That's the price of a small car! I think she must be whacked. Becuase my friend is going there, and he said last year he payed $8,000 or something, and it was a 3D animation program.

So now im sh!t out of luck. Unless I go back to a college in January ... but I would rather go to one of these career colleges then a big ***** school again.

Any advice / opinions?

that happens a lot man - my best advice would be to go to a guidence councilor - at your highschool or your old college and ask them for help, it's what they do.

I actually was enrolled at Seneca as well but had to drop out because the place I was to be staying at screwed me over and told me 2 weeks before moving in I wasnt going to be able to. Since I didnt sign anything they just gave me back my cash and I was S.O.L.

'School aint got nuthin on Kirupa.com!'

I suggest you learn for free by teaching yourself..

A diploma doesn't garauntee skills, but it helps to convince people that you are qualified if you have a weak portfolio....

How about UofT?

I went to their campus and I thought it was pretty nice.

A friend of mine went to Queens and she said that was also pretty good. I'm just not sure of the digital art schools at both universities.

Tis true... When I graduated and was applying for jobs, anything even vaguely computer related and they wanted an appropriate degree, and then a lot of the bigger places wanted you to have a 2:1 as well (which luckily, I had :) ).

In effect, my degree is pretty worthless now, since the field has changed so much in just the few years since I graduated. But it helps you get started, without question. :)

what I have heard from alot of professionals ad executives is that yes a degree does not prove skill but it does say alot to ones character. 1. That you are attentive and can finish something. 2. Goal oriented. 3. Trainable 4. And career minded. Alot of people without degrees do get a job. But there was a statistic on the turnover rate of such individuals and it was not good. So a degree is not all bad but it is not the end of the world witout it either. If you can get it get it. It is more for your character than anything. Hell my first 2 years in college were a breeze because I was an athlete. And I know some who all four years were a breeze and graduated. Just because they were athletes.

start your own business doing whatever it is you do best... it's hard but you can be your own boss... just do your own research and make plenty of mistakes... you'll learn from em.

Do you have any "technical colleges" where you are? I'm currently going for Visual Communications/Computer Graphics and it is going to be a really good degree. Apparently I'll be certified to do a handful of odd jobs. Photography, web design, dvd/cd authoring.. lots of cool stuff. Also the cost is way lower than a university college. I figured that I would have a degree, and I think my portfolio will be strong, so it wont matter that much that I didnt go to a 4 year college. For once I think I'm actually looking forward to things to come =/
