Do you think this would be fair for a grade nine.

The teacher assigning a test for you then telling you it is the next day and you have to rmember 12 or 15 words for it.

Thats What i have to do. I dont think its faIR REALLY.

But i am studying

*offers rev a princely sum for the mouse*

*then slaps Bulldog for being a good for nothing, lazy whippersnapper*

*then winks to show this is a good-natured jibe*

*but adds a small growl to show that though it is in jest, Bulldog is still a good for nothing lazy whippersnapper anyway*

man, the first thing you learn each year of your education is that the subsequent year was a joke. This continues until about your senior year in college when you get to take the 12 hours of free electives that you can actually choose. So, let it go. 15 words? Just memorize it and ace the test, at least you don't have to actually think yet. :thumb:

PS. I would give anything to leave my vast array of troubles at the door and not have anything but a vocab test to worry about. You want to know something to feel bad about? PM me and ask where I'm going to be thursday.

asphaltcowboy
September 9th, 2003, 10:24 PM
lmfao.. 15 words..

cat
dog
mat
sat
rat
cow...

Assuming this grade nine is the equivalent of the English school system's year 9 (3rd year of secondary school), then going by what my homework and that was like, having to remember 15 words is a piece of the proverbial cake...

prstudio
September 10th, 2003, 10:16 AM
grade 9 is the first year of secondary school here

its broken up like this (give or take a few categories) Some areas have Elementary and Middle combined...etc...High School is pretty much the same everywhere.

Elementary:
Kindergarten
Grades 1-5

Middle School:
Grades 6-8

Secondary(High School):
Grades 9-12

College
----------------------
Oh and don't complain about the words man; that is so much cake...in fact I would compare that to someone saying hey go pick up a gallon of milk. Unless of course you have something that impairs your learning...either way man, make flash cards- grab a parent or friend and go to it...

Kitiara
September 10th, 2003, 10:26 AM
That is so... bizarre. :sure:

asphaltcowboy
September 10th, 2003, 11:09 AM
even so.. that's still year 7 over in the uk... mmm...

3 hour exam.. learn 15 words... 3 hour exam... learn 15 words...

which to choose, which to choose? :sure:

Kitiara
September 10th, 2003, 11:25 AM
Yeah, I remember my year 7... Eek. I suppose though that the English and American school systems are hugely different...

How about paying $218 worth of USED books for 3 college classes? :m: Is THAT fair? Maybe, but certainly expensive anyway...

Back on thread topic, 15 words is cake man. My freshman year of high school I had both Italian and Latin courses. Alllll those endings I had to memorize, and all those words I had to know.

Agricola est in villa! ... And that's all I remember from that Latin class. :x Oh, and something about "amamabus" which is like, "I used to have loved" ... or something

Kitiara
September 10th, 2003, 11:42 AM
Latin? :stunned: Never did that. I did French up until I was 13 and German till I was 18. Of course I've forgotton most of it now. Aside from the odd phrase here and there, most of which I'm not at liberty to make public. :P

I think it has to be something more complex than just remembering 15 words... maybe he didnt explain it very well.

And paying 218 is expensive but very fair. My girlfriend just had to spend 200 on ONE book... that she will use for a semester or two. Crazy - it better have stuff in it that NEVER gets out dated :)

It's been my experience that this continues on well beyond ones school years. The teacher simply gets replaced by a boss or a client.

This has just reminded me that I still can remember the structure of a muscle I was taught back when I was 16. Scientific terms, the lot. It's strange the useless things you can recall sometimes. :sure:

like why in the hell do I remember my Oregon Driver's license number when I haven't been in Oregon since 1984?

or my home phone number from 30 years ago?

but yet, I have a hard time remembering where I parked the car...

I always remember the left ventricle, as should you. ;)

For anyone who's interested: Epimycium. perimycium, endomycium, myofibrals and myofilaments, each containing actin and myosin, is the structure of a muscle. :) (I did kinda well in Biology. :beam:)

Revhttp://www.aulman.com/rev.gif

The reason that is rev is because all the stuff is packed away in your brain and stuck in some spot.

Some spots can be places usally used or important things you need to remember others can be old non used words or important things.

Basically stuff your brain stores can take a while to proceess through espically if your thinking of another thing at the same time.

Parking the car at the mall or something you will think about getting what type of grocery's. So think of getting a new pair of scissors then you start walking and talking to other or go away and stuff like that.

Everytime you do something new the one thing you thought of is getting pulled back farther in your brain.

first, I rent cars, so I even forget what the car looks like...

second, parking in SF is a total pain, so you end up going around the blocks in circles due to one way streets, etc. for what seems like hours...

third, I am usually not completely sober when I drop the car off...

so that is prob why I forget where I parked the car...

as to why I remember certain things, I don't know, some things stick others seem to fly away... JavaScript for example fades away as soon as possible...
