Internet Information Service 5.1

I am new to this but, after installing IIS on my Windows XP Professional system I have problems. When I type in my browser http://localhost I get an error can't find server.
How can I trouble shoot this?

I figured out what was wrong. I was in another location other then my primary location and I was connected to the internet using a proxy.

Setting my setting back to automatic and I was ready to go.
