I was interested in this program and was searching for student discounts and came upon this. It's a great price, i just wanted to know if anyone knew of anywhere else to get savings like these on products like Maya Unlimited. Also, is this the full version of Lightwave? Thanks :)

and if you want natural 3d, Vue d'Esprit is only 199$. And it's way better than bryce.

man vue is still around??? I prefer bryce for some reason. LW is awesome the interface leaves a lot to be desired but once you get in it and get used to it it is awesome. ::plug:: But usually the manufacturers of the software always have these cool educ. programs and pricing. Also if you go toyour college bookstore you can also find deals there. I just bought c4d for a ridiculously low price. Actually my brother who is still a student bought it for me but eh....

oh BTW you may want to buy it from the newtek website. LW 8 is about to drop and I think if you buy it at newtek www.newtek.com you will get a free upgrade when it drops. I think the student price is the same also

From what i recall i liked Vue over bryce because of its more natual 3d program feel, the viewports could be 4 up and movement of app and tools felt much easier than bryces' "original" methods,

and rendered much faster than bryce.

yup, exactly what soulty said.. :)

oh ok, just the interface. I use Bryce now but I have gotten used to it. I was just wondering if there was something I was missing. Yeah the interface is kinda weird, but I still think Bryce is better.

both are powerful in their own rights, to tell you the truth i havent used either of them to make a clear judgment, in truth they are considered as quick fix 3d apps.

Not to say that major 3d users (and novice users) can create some amazing scenes with them, because i ve seen some really nice looking renders from those apps (like my render in my old 3d work post;)) .

Most power 3d apps (maya, max, lightwave, xsi , cinema) can achieve these effects (big fan of maya and it new liquid effects).

The thing with programs like bryce and Vue is that you get a repetative look, its sometimes obvious you have used bryce with things like grassy top, pre-built models which you lose the originality feel to it.

I guess it comes down to how you use the app. and i think i will stop mumbling because i could go on forever :P

:smirk:

hahaha.....agreed but I create alot of cool stuff in bryce from scratch I really dont use there predefined stuff too much. Like I use it to create rocks and stuff. I know I can do it in max....but eh...I guess I dont use the true power of bryce, but same as poser I jump in it grab something I need then jump out.

I have really jumped knee deep into this web and print stuff so I have not been able to do much 3d since those Ice Cubes we created months ago (not sure if you remember) But I hope to get back in when I start back on my site.
