changing stacking order of layers

is there any way to switch the stacking order of layers during a movie clip. actually i want to do it with an on(release) action. any ideas? and you'll have to break it down for me, i'm kinda new to actionscripting.

you can change the depths of items using the swapDepths command. I'm not sure if thats what you want though. It won't change the whole layer.

i'm not sure what you mean by depths. I not familiar with swapDepths. What i am trying to do is when there is a mouse event I'd like layer 3 to move to layer 4, for example. so that I can switch the way images or instances of images overlap.

actually maybe I can move an instance from layer to layer. does anyone know if that is Possible?
