What exactly do kirupa moderators do? I mean, I see you ban people, tell them to quit spamming, and give lots of help to programmers and designers.
Like do you guys get paid or something? I hear some of you, like asphaltcowboy, being a "slave" to another kirupan... Kitiara? Kax? :ub:

Ah... Asphalt is my slave for the next few weeks because he's actually working for me in the same office at Churchill. :)
Basically, being a moderator involves keeping an eye on the forums and the members. As you've spotted, making sure spam doesn't get out of hand and seeing that everybody plays nicely. :)
A lot of mods write tutorials for the main Kirupa site, and of course help out in the forums answering questions on their experts of expertise. :)
In my case I also moderate the SotW forum - post the threads and make the voting polls etc. :)

She's taking a break for a while. Still pops in every now and then though. :)
To answer the first post again though, no we don't get paid. It's all purely for the love of doing it. :)
And don't think I didn't notice the little "Hell" comment there... ;) But yes to the last bit. :)

Churchill. Churchill Insurance. In Bromley. In Kent. Near London. In England. In the UK. In Europe. On this World. In this Universe.

Basically what Kit said.
KirupaForum moderators are here to well.... moderate the forum. This means enforcing the rules of the forum and making sure members obey the rules and show respect for other members of the forum. If a member breaks the rules or disrespects other members they are considered unwelcome here and therefore a mod has the ability to ban them from the forum. We also have the ability to edit a members footer/avatar/custom title in case they do not follow proper guidelines (aka are offensive, do not fit size requirements, etc)
What else do we do?
As mods it is also our duty to help the members of the forums with general forum questions (questions relating to the forum or rules of the forum). When it comes to Flash, Coding, Design, or General questions though we are not <i>required</i> to help since as members our help is purely voluntary.
Do we get paid?
As previously stated, our help is purely voluntary, we do not get paid in any way for our help here. We worked hard to achieve our moderator status, so the status itself is reward enough.
Do we have slaves?
Yes
Any other questions?

Yeah - whatever the other mods mentioned. Also, a lot of the new ideas for the site come from the moderators. Stuff such forum as styles, the Web Technologies section, Interviews, etc. would have never crossed my mind if it wasn't for the input from the people wearing the moderator costume :thumb:

Well if this place is anything like some of the places Ive "volunteered" at in the past, then theyve got a secret moderators forum back there somewhere, a secret handshake they use in public places, and all the free pron that they can handle.
*Wonders if his old Vbulletin hack still works??? ...... decides its best to not find out.
Oh, and the personal pics are usually much more interesting "back there" as well.

There doesn't happen to be a forum....where the moderators plan all of the things on the site. Or is there? Some mysteries are better left to speculation. Btw, in that place (which may or may not exist) the sun never sets and parties go 24/7.

What I do mostly is
-tell 1st timers to use meaningfull titles for their posts
-edit the junk they used
-remove cross/duplicate posts (same stuff/different forum)
-tell people to search :)
-provide condescending advice such as RTFM ;; ****, we need a manual, Kirupa! lol
-suggest stuff to kirupa to improve the forums (lets ban all non-mods!)
-and from time to time try to help...
-and most of all, have fun, give back to the community what it gave me: more knowledge and help when I was stuck...
Just don't post anything stupid... (except in random if you must).

It's ok though Mike, ahmed is a PHP script programmed by sen who was programmed by Jubba who was programmed by rev who was animated by Kit at the Secret Round Table PC which doesn't exist in a room that is most probably also made up :)
The moderators, after being uploaded and attached to a mySQL database, are then sent to bootcamp where they are trained in the ways of....being a moderator by Phil - who is actually 13th in command of NASA, 2nd in command at Phil Jayhan Farms (Mrs. Jayhan is the CEO of that place), and the co-founder of Microsoft that isn't Bill Gates (you never do see Paul Allen anywhere do you?), and one of the world's most famous CSS coders :alien:
