I knew 1 site, but the site has been down/gone for a few months now and I have no clue if/when it is coming back, so that isn't of any help ;)

I guess you will just have to let your own creativity fly with this ;) ;)

www.ultrashock.com has some cartoonish like characters and then a killer 2a like site set up.

well they have a new layout but you can see they still have their lil cartoon guys there. The old site used to have this dude that pops out when you exit and shoots a laser gun or something

But you said about mixing this and 2A... What is it about 2A that the boss likes? Does it have to look like it, or just... feel kinda slick like their site?

The only thing slick about 2a is their transitions.

I agree, 2a is like "in the club." it was cool when it came out, but after about the one millionth reference, it gets old. Kiddies jump off of chairs trying to copy their trans and style and such. Whenever they changed to version3 or whatever number the blue one was, you could see the internet changing into the same thing. Everyone was on the bandwagon. I'm personally kinda sick of their stuff.

how user-friendly it is?

I came across the official transformers site a while back in a search for reference material. It's not a technical flash masterpiece, but I enjoyed browsing around. Sort of relates to your post:
