I hate people that are always late (like when coming to pick me up, or saying they will be somewhere at a certain time and not being there) Nothing makes me more angry :m:

But on the internet it's a different story. There is no way to keep up with EVERYTHING :) besides, you know what they say "better late than never!"

yup yup, did anyone grab a copy yet? and what's up with AS 2.0? what's it all about, is there diferent syntax?

You have NO idea how much I hate that! People say to meet somewhere at a certain time, they should be there at that time. I will never forget what my high school algebra teacher told us, "To be early is to be on time, to be on time is to be late, and to be late is unacceptable."

But yeah, thanks for the link anyway. I'm interested to see how it's going to look and feel. I dunno if I'll like it yet - things seem to keep getting more and more automated. But, like most everything, it's worth a shot at least.

I like that quote - in fact it's kind of the way I live my life really. I am never (or very rarley anyway) ON TIME for anything, I am usually there 10 to 15 min early, depending on the situation. I just can't stand being late because of how much I hate it when others are late.

I had an email from Macromedia about this last Friday. :)

There's seminars and stuff going on all over England where they showcase the new products. Wish I'd been able to get time off to go to one... :(

But it looks like they've listened to programmers complaints - text in Flash! They've taken our advice! :P

and it's a snip at only $1000! :*(

i'm probably going to get it from my school with an educational discount.

It's niiiice ...but still hasn't shipped yet ... saw it last night at the UsersGroup breeze webCast event

from what I gathered, it's very backwards compatable (you can use AS 1.0 or 2.0)
2.0 just has a bunch more OOp features added to it and several quick n' easy behaviours and timeline events ++++

oh, not 1,000...same price as the current studioMX
-($ 899. )-

all the improvements are sweeeet

I'm the same way ... I like to give myself at least 5 minutes "buffer" time, and most of the time give around 10 minutes time. Especially doctors appointments and all - cause sometimes they take you early, and you don't have to wait in that room for hours

What about PRO?

RelandR
September 4th, 2003, 11:08 AM
pro is more but you don't have to have it

...pro's features are nice but unless you plan on using video alot, you could live without it

SureShot
September 4th, 2003, 01:15 PM
Reland, that's where I run into problems.

You see - I dont program, almost at all - but I do use Video a WHOLE lot in flash. I dont know what one to get. I mean, if I get the pro version, will I be able to even use it if it's laid out like VB? I doubt it.

Do you know if you can switch back to timelines with Pro...?

RelandR
September 4th, 2003, 01:53 PM
(yeah the pro vers. is the $1k price)
I think well worth the added $100 but I was just saying for those that don't nec. need it, the standard MX is quite improved and completely adequate

The added VB style view is a sidebar tree structure thingy that gives an added 'birds-eye view' of all the elements in the project (read: a better movie inspector ?) but the timeline is allways available

the video features seem really nice -
drag n' drop interface componants,
streaming and load on demand,
(ie:no need to embed the video right in the file)

all in all from what I could gleen from the demo (not a 'hands-on-test-drive')...
the new MX is not different so much as enhanced / improved / ++flexible

Also ...a lot of the scripting of basic actions has been (optionaly) automated so it is actually easier for non-coders'

there's a fairly indepth presentation (tour) somewhere on their site

OMG! I just heard of this!

For one YAY! For the other: DAMMIT it makes my Mook's AS guide obsolete :(

But still YAY!
Look at the box! Its so friggin shinny, omg that things is beatifull.... oi oi oi! I do hope they heard of Mook's preloader pettition...
Omg I cant wait.!

:beam: :beam: :beam:

Still makes me angry that my books are no good anymore..!

EDIT: Kirupa - nice song rb, but still advertising piracy.

I think downloading MX 2004 would be nice, but pretty unethical. The people who develop MX 2004 work pretty dam hard and do some amazing stuff. If you want to use it, you should buy it..or at the very least download it then mail Macromedia an anonymous check for a hundred bucks.

kirupa
September 4th, 2003, 02:45 PM
Yeah - rb and others, please refrain from referring to software piracy.

lucky you...want to mail me the cd when you are done?...i could spend a thousand on it...or I could eat for the rest of the year. It's really a tough call.

RelandR
September 4th, 2003, 03:04 PM
hey everybody,

all the books should still be good

ActionScript 2.0 is optional
..aaaaand allthough I've not seen it, it is purported to be not so very different than 1.0 as it is an extended version...
(things added vs things changed)
hence the most fundemental aspects of AS should remain the same

....somebody correct me if I'm wrong but that is what I gathered....

RelandR - Great info man, thanks muchly.

I think I will be getting the pro version here at work. My biggest worry is that it was going to be soley for coding and I wouldnt be able to work my way around it - I guess you have squased that fear. Those video specs sound way to good to be true, I cannot wait! Thanks again my man. :)

NP tuk... :)

here's a *secret* link to some stuff made by the new MX, scroll down to "INTO site" link ... It'll prompt you to dnld the new beta player (#7) - afterwards, close the browser and relaunch it then go back there and scroll down to the "INTO site" link again and then "launch..."

September 4th, 2003, 05:58 PM
They pointed out at the presentation that they intentionally didn't change the interface so much that people wouldnt have to familiarize theirselves with Flash all over again :)

RelandR
September 4th, 2003, 05:59 PM
we didn't get a colin mook presentation :bad:

...but all in all it was great...

It looked the same to me +++ some cool snap out/collapsable sideBars and more menu schtuffs and windowPanel options and, and

I dont see anything wrong with being a pirate of the internet if you can afford the software. You might as well learn it now, and when you can afford it, get it. If not, you will not learn the software and never come around to use it....

Thats why I applaud maya for having a free academic version! People learn to use it, then when they grad or get a job... there is no reason they will switch to other software so they will go out and buy it!

grandsp5
September 4th, 2003, 06:03 PM
you are a very lucky guy ahmed to get to go to that. My area has something like that later,..but I am out of town anyways

ahmed
September 4th, 2003, 06:07 PM
RB, that's what the 30-day trial's there for..

RelandR
September 4th, 2003, 06:16 PM
they used to say (maybe they still do ?) in their FAQ that you could go for another 30 days as long as it was on a "different" box

just a trivial note::

at least as far as I can tell (there may be some minor exceptions) :

all trial / demo versions that have a time limit are usually *fully functional*
whereas
the indefinite ones have save limitations / watermarks / etc to lessen their usability

RussianBeer
September 4th, 2003, 10:20 PM
30 days is not even close to enough time to learn the softaware , use it, show your work, get a job with(with the help) of it. like 3-6 months will be more like it (even then) :sigh:

BadMagick
September 4th, 2003, 10:24 PM
Yeah, I think 30 days is barely enough to get to use the software. I mean, we all have lives to live, sometimes you don't get a chance to try something new, or (for me at least) get to use the computer every day. 3 months might be better for a "demo"

Digitalosophy
September 4th, 2003, 10:30 PM
well guys the issue is.....

i personally have about 15 different email addresses, and so does everyone here.

even if the track IP's when downloading 30 day versions, i can just got to my friends house, use a different email address and boom another 30 days..

hense that can go on forever so in a way i feel macrmedia's pain

RelandR
September 5th, 2003, 01:01 AM
It won't install a second time unless you've cleaned the drive (clean install)

...secret time stamp files ya know, that are sniffed out by the program everytime it is launched ... and will kill it upon tampering with the system clock (sequencing script)

Returns:: "trial has expired"

I only have 2 e-mail addresses :-\

Should I have more?! ;(

SureShot

BadMagick - no dont get more if you dont need them!

I have 2 for personal use and 1 for junk mail... that's it. I guess I do have like 15 or so somewhere but I cannot remember where I signed up, or anything :) I just stick with 3... it's safer that way - I know I can remember that much ;)
