Hi guys
its been a while since i've been on here but i have been busy working away. I've just created my first twitter application that allows users to plot there location and current weather on a map using twitter.

would be sicker if you just sent an @weather 92084 or @weather Vista CA. to twitter and then it sent a dm or a reply back with the weather.

Now that's an idea. Mind if I run with it?

If I choose New York from the drop down I just get a loading message....
edit: for(var i=0; i<data.length; i++){// js error

@esherido
Go crazy but if you start making money off of it, I want some. But after I thought about it for a min you wouldn't want to follow @weather because you would get a bunch of @reply's not target towards you.

That's because no one has posted a tweet for New York yet.
I need to have a fall back then to say there are no tweets for this location

@bugboy
No you need to just tweet out the weather. It is silly to depend on twitter users to deliver your app weather when you have a yahoo web api to do it for you.

Well as its just a bit of fun i don't see it as being silly.
I think you need to stop being so pomp and get over yourself.

I like it, minus the fact that this application hardly covers any Canadian locations.

Cheers thank you.
We did have an issue with the geo tagging however Canada is now in the system

Honestly, I think you need to cut the attitude and have some respect for a very insightful (and true) opinion. ;)

So would you be interested in maybe making a twitter app like I described?

Sure thing, might make for an interesting load-test for Constrictor; also would force me to get around to writing a cron system and REST libraries for it. :D A bit of motivation is always good.

Seems like the big flaw with this idea is that your users have to keep tweeting the weather. Weather is one of those things that we already have reliable reporting on, no reason to make it user generated.

Guys its a bit of fun, proof of concept something i just did that maybe other people can get ideas from (which it has).
Its alright to poop poop the idea but no one else has done it ( and don't say its because its not worth doing ) how can you rubbish it straight away.
Its not about having a reliable reporting its about people tweeting the weather at that point in time.
What the i love, i hate twitter app thats pointless as well.
Also i wouldn't say they were insightful comments, insightful would be give credit were credit is due and then expanding on it by giving advice, or maybe the way the advice was given wasn't the best (I apologise).
I would also like to help and be on the team with Esherido and ajcates.
Lets be nice people.

Don't take it so personally. It's not that great of an idea, the fact that you did it first doesn't really help. (It's not worth doing.) Nice job, you made a useless twitter app. :thumb2:
Welcome to the internet, kid. If you do something dumb people will tell you. If you wanted someone to congratulate you and remind you what a beautiful unique flower you are you should have called your mother. :crying:

Useless or not, he's actually produced something. And there's every reason to have real-time reporting on weather conditions precisely because they are real-time reports from people experiencing the current weather conditions in a specific locality, rather than vague Yahoo forecasts or a generalisation of what the weather is across a wider geographic area.
If I was planning on visiting New York, I'd rather know that it was actually raining/snowing/foggy in Broadway instead of relying upon a Yahoo widget predicting a 35% probability of precipitation along the Eastern seaboard of the United States.
