F'ing AWESOME!

-- Review --

The casting is what made this movie so perfect. From Scotty as Simon Pegg, or Bones. They seriously picked actors that not only look, but are completely believable in their position. The graphics were outstanding. I didn't see it in IMAX, but if you have the chance its obvious it was made for IMAX.

The scenes and stages and all the interfaces are held very true, but upgraded. Everything is a touch screen. Kirk, is was perfect and they really explain a lot in the 2 hours.

The Nokia advertisements was a little blatant, but they are in every movie now-a-days. Budweiser was nicely placed.

Even if your not into Star Trek, they fill in all the needed details without bore. It really is more of an action movie, with pretty funny parts (Scotty).

Good luck

Saw it last night with no expectations and having never seen Star Trek and was thoroughly entertained. JJ Abrams is the man.

Temp, if you going to leave a review in the review section. Can you please go more... in depth? Like the other reviews?

^ No problem, small edit, I figure not everyone saw it yet, so I kept it pretty vague. :fab:

Feel free you edit your own thoughts. There was a ton to the movie and lots more to discuss than what I said.

I haven't seen it yet, but I heard it does the whole 'shakey-camera' thing pretty bad. That normally doesn't bother me - but did anybody notice this as a problem?

I saw this last night in some sweet theater in Canada. The screen was IMAX-sized, which made it fairly neat.

The original Star Trek series is the only one of which I haven't seen much, so I didn't have as many complaints as some other people who were sitting around me.

^ I'm in the same boat as you, I've seen all of Voyager and some Deep Space Nine, The Next Generation, but the only episodes I've see of the original star trek are from when I randomly switch the tv on and it's playing.

It's not what your thinking if that's what you mean. It's pretty light and only in the really awesome action scenes.

The review that they've got up on the Onion is gold. I might actually see this one.

Good movie - even the girl friend really liked it. I can say that a lot of my appreciation comes from the fact that this was a "re-envisioning" rather than just another movie. Watching your old favorites come to life with new faces is a treat - you already have that bond these characters that most other movies need to work much harder to get.

I had a few complaints, though. There was the shaky camera issue YoungNastyMan mentioned, which was really only bad in one scene (the bar scene shown in most of the previews where kirk and pike were sitting at the table talking) - made sickening by the IMAX screen. There was a blatant continuity error in another scene. And there was possibly an error in a ship design. When I see it again (and I will, probably this week) I'll need to pay more attention to see if I'm right on this one; I'm not a true trekkie, so I could be mistaken.

I'm a dyed-in-the-wool Trekkie - yes, Trekkie, not Trekfan, not Trekker. I really enjoyed the movie. There were a couple of significant gaffes, but not enough to destroy the overall movie experience. I wish Nero had been developed more. However, the main characters did a great job touching on the work of the original actors without devolving into mere caracature. Quinto as Spock is an amazing revelation, and Chris Pine as Kirk balances the cocky womanizer with the dawning awareness that he must give himself to something greater. Karl Urban's McCoy is a blast.

But my favorite character of all was Captain Christopher Pike. When he's on screen, there is no doubt in anybody's mind that he is the man in charge.

The shakycam stuff was pretty minimal, and mostly IIRC on some emotionally-charged shots. The visual effects are fantastic and must be seen on a big screen; however, the movie is much more than a CGI-fest. The characters are the central focus of the film, and they come through at every turn.

I was a bit hesitant to watch this film, but I surprisingly enjoyed it even if I was no sci-fi fan. It was very entertaining and I'm guessing this is just a prequel to other Star Trek movies.
