I got the Doom 3 E3 demo! omg...... this is literally the best looking game ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!! its kind of choppy on my system, but im gettin a Geforce FX soon, i cant wait! Doom is so kewl but so freaking scary too! now i have to wait like 6 months for the full game..... :(

lol, i was just talking to kit about the trailer.. it looks stunning. Yes, there is a leaked version floating around.. personally, I'd prefer to wait for teh daddeh of games to arrive properly.. and anyway.. by the time it's actually released.. I might have saved up enough to buy a pc that can run it! lol! ;)

Doom 3 won't have multiplayer :( but it looks good nontehless

Listen here ... Doom 3 isn't gonna need multiplayer for it to be a great game, one of the all time best ever in fact. It's an old classic reborn, no matter what anyone says, you know it's the model Half-life was born from. As far as I'm concerned Doom 'invented' the 1st person shooter, and the Doom legacy will forever be the best PC game of forever. (yeah, that last part didn't make much sense)

You Half Life junkies can go get your fix on the girly-man's Doom, but I'm sticking with my guns (no pun inten... ok, I did intend it) and keeping it real with a real man's game - D3!

And you can bet your butts that I'll have a whole stockpile of 'Opps I Crapped My Pants' for when I play that game! It's looking sweet, or as the thugs around my parts say, "Off the hook."

I got to give it to Id softwear they have been doing this Doom series since 1993 and they always are coming out with the best first person shooters. which by the way i am not a big fan of you can give me a 3rd person any day but the only first person shooters i like is doom and unreal T 03 i never liked half life that much to many tedious things to do. doom is just a strait through game were its all about kill many things which i like but i think they are going to change it all up with the new doom 3 i hope they don't Chang it so much that it wrecks the game. All i have seen so far is the good graphics and i hope thats not all thats good about it. I think i read somewhere that they will be having a multiplayer but it isn't supposed to be that great cuz they are focusing more on the one player game trying to make that the best that they can.

Well the people at ID actually created a state of the art graphic engine, and then created Doom III around it. Becasue of that, Doom III will more use scary tunnels, dark surroundings, ... And also, because of the high quality of the graphic engine, it is impossible to have a lot of enemies at the same time on the screen. So Doom III aims for a scary experience, with small groups of enemies.

Half-Life 2 uses the new Vsource engine, which was specifically created for high quality graphics, but it is fast enough to make multiplayer playable without too much lags, and to have more enemies and/or players on the screen. It has a great physics engine, and a fantastic elemental display. That's what makes the difference with Doom III.

Yeah HL2 rocks! The person's mouth moves according to the audio (speech) sound so no animation there, the eyes blink according to the radiosity calculation, exellent physics so when a box or a brick falls into the water it automatically starts floating or sinking... it's just too **** real and excellent! The enmy AI is awesome! Your allyes actually 'think' how it would be better to follow you (fast and rush or slow and sneaking)again according to the radiosity calculation and the room structure...

It's just too awesome... I'm gonna buy a new comp for that one!

Yeah they've made work of the persons. They have simulated over 40 muscles in the face, which makes the characters react extremely realistic. Their physics engine is amazing too. Water can be applied to anything, even a person. I saw this demo that shows barrels falling down a wall with pins sticking out. The effect was absolutely stunning; I've never seen anything more realistic than that before !

An example of what HL2 should be able to do:
You enter a room, you see a drinks machine. You shoot it, the cans roll out and off the stairs. Enemies running up that stair fall over them and crash to the bottom of the stairs. Is that great or what !?

well.. since id are the masters of online gaming imho, I should think the netcode they create will be perfectly sufficient to play with broadband. I think it's going to be more a case of "can your PC run it at a good speed?" rather than "can my net connection transfer enough data fast enough?"

As for 'is HL2 gonna outshine D3?'.. frankly, I'm not that bothered. I'm gonna play both. I didnt like many of the weapons in HL so I think D3 will be better in that respect.. From the tech demos I've seen, both games have great, realistic physics, but HL2 will just edge it (seen the bit where the barrels fall down? ;)) having said that, I think D3 has nicer graphics.. it's looks brilliant. Yes, HL had a great single player.. but.. didnt anyone get a bit bored towards the end? Yes, good set pieces.. but still.. :) I reckon Doom3 will clinch it for me..

and obviously, since it was made by id, I reckon that a lot more people will just on the modding bandwagon, since they like making it easy to do.. HL2? well.. someone will release CS2 (did someone say 'boring?' ;)) and.. well... that'll probably be about it :)

well.. strictly speaking, it wasn't 3d. as for downloads.. many people forget that doom was actually shareware. You could download it, play the first episode of levels and then buy the second two episodes if you liked it. You should be able to find the shareware knocking around somewhere :)

Castle Wolfenstein 3D was the first 3d shooter. Well it was not really 3d (the bodies always turned to you when you move around them :P), but it was then considered as 3d. Wolfenstein was the very first, and after that there was Doom.

You start in jail of Castle Wolfenstein and you have to escape. All the walls were light blue :P And when you killed an enemie his body turns along with you when you rotate around it :P The levels were a big maze.

Although I haven't played it yet, I'm betting my money that the game will be like Unreal 2 and sell based on the name and the "wow it looks pretty" effect. Personally I really don't care what a game looks like, just as long as it's got great gameplay. But I'll hear what people say about the game once it comes out, and if it's good, i might get it.

Depends which version. If it's a MX200, it will probably lag. If it's a Ultra, then there's less chance it'll lag. Combination P4 (fast) with GeForce2 (slow) is kinda weird.

Especially the shadow and fire effects ! They're amazing ! By the way, have you downloaded the E3 HL² presentation ? That one has an incredibly nice level which demonstrates the physics.

I'm just saying that HL2 will have the MOD community to back it up (cs2, TF2 to mention a couple). Doom has never beena multiplayer focused game, more interested in the single player spookiness stuff. Sure, HL2 is gonna have a great SP, but the MP stuff is what's gonna make it good.

I think that whole "I'm just ranting" thing is applying all over again.. Perhaps Doom wasn't very multiplayer focused because it was released in 1994? Jeez.. you must be completely forgetting the 3 quake games that Id subsequently released that all had an absolutely phenomenal online following...?

And the original Doom games weren't made to be particularly spooky. And I think you'll find that HL was far more orientated towards singleplayer than multiplayer.. did you play HL standard multiplayer?? It was f*cking awful! Wasn't til CS and TF was released that anyone actually bothered playing it.

WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?!?!?!!?!?! this game is soooooooooooooooooo fu*king scary!!!!!!!!!!! and the gameplay is so awesome!!! like there is this one part when you are in a bathroom and a movie happens, where a monster eats a zombie body, then you start to play and you only see the zombie body (the zombie gets up and you have to kill it) then theres this mirror thats looks awesome, and when you look in the mirror you see the monster come out of the darkness and smack you in the back! its sooooooo **** scary!


the physics in D3 also are very well, when you run into a body, your legs move it around and you can shoot stuff and they seem real, but im very very very very sure HL2 will have better physics after all the demos i seen

(oh and by the way nali, unreal 2 wasnt just about being pretty either :P)

How many other developers do you know that do that? Id always deliver the goods.. Doom 3 will be no different
