Hi,

Got a question about Google...

I was wondering how you go about adding extra links to different sections of your website when someone Googles you, like what Microsoft has (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=microsoft&btnG=Google+Search&aq=f&oq=microsof) for example, below the main Microsoft Corporation link? Like how they have the Download Centre Home, Windows XP, Microsoft Update links, and more. There is also a search box there which could be quite handy to know how to incorporate too.

I had a quick look at the source code but nothing jumped out at me... is it done through Google's Webmaster Tools or something?

Thanks in advance. :)

Just as an added extra example, attached is a screenshot of the Google search results for Kirupa, displaying the 'extra links' I'm referring to... How do they get there?

Ummm Possibly.........

However I've created sitemaps for sites in the past, but none of them have appeared with those extra links in Google...

My sitemaps pretty much just consist of this:

<url>
<loc>http://www.whateverurlitis.com/index.html</loc>
</url>
<url>
<loc>http://www.whateverurlitis.com/whatever.html</loc>
</url>
<url>
<loc>http://www.whateverurlitis.com/hi.html</loc>
</url>

Is there some tag like "<priority>" for instance I can put in there that I'm not aware of that'll create these extra links I'm looking for?

Perhaps Google does this for you over time? I've had a website online for 5 years or so now, but none of these extra links appear with its listing... So I'm not sure. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

Hi,

those links are called sitelinks - and there is nothing you can do about it, it's done by Google (one of it's algorithms). As far as I could dig out about it, you can only try to reach masses - like zillions of visitors to gain sitelinks from Google :)

You can read following article about it:

http://www.seopedia.org/internet-marketing-and-seo/google-sitelinks-the-ultimate-faq/

or Google for more infos, but it's, by my opinion just wasting your time - better to use that time to improve your site in what you can improve it ;)
