anybody get money through ads?

i was wondering if anybody here owns a website and makes revenue through it using advertising programs, or something like amazon's affiliate program. i am thinking of signing up for one of these programs for my new site

Most of them don't work. My v0-2 had ads, they pay you didly none. I earned like...so many points on this one program to find out that I'd need like, 20x more points just to get a couple of dollars. :mad:

But your site would look much better without ads.

Ok, lets look at our favorite example... kirupa.com

He doesnt sell ads, but he definitely has sponsors. Media temple gives him free hosting, and I'm pretty sure he's getting free fonts, etc. He also gets commissions by selling stuff through amazon.com - I wonder how much he's made so far though that.

I'm planning on launching an online magazine sometime soon. I would like to have an incentive to keep working on it, and I would like it to generate revenue, but I don't want to sell ads. to me, ads and popups make the site annoying. i'd wait till your site got a hefty amount of hits everyday, then maybe consider it.

what i came to a site and there is ads and popup every i most of the time just close the site and go some where else :}

but if your site has a lot of hits then if you put down one or two ads you will get more mone for them and most ppl won't mind.

you know right now my site isnt big so i wanted maybe a few adds just to pay it off, then hwen i looked into it, unless your iste is big you dont make anyting, so there is a problem there. the macromedia affiliate program looks really good however. so does amazons. its also about where you put tehm, if the adds are small (see kirupas side bar ont he main page) i dont htink anyone cares but if they are big and popups no one wants to see them. JMO
