MAN OH MAN!! :scream: I'm having such a bad time picking out a good digital camera. I don't want something real expensive because I'm not a serious photographer, I just want it for football/hockey games and taking pictures of my drunk friends this new school year.
I've been looking at the Fuji FinePix series (real interested in the 3800), they look like some solid cameras
Any one have other suggestions?! Cause I'm going bonkers over here... :m:

I use a very simple Samsung Digimax 200, which sells for under $200 ...
It has all the features I could possibly use, plus takes very nice, clear images...
I have a client who uses a $5,000.00 digital cam... I really can't see the diff. especially for the $. A larger megapixel would be nice, if you are going to print larger than 5x7, but I rarely print anything, and when I do, 5x7 is fine.
jmo, tho

it's the quality of the pics
higher megapixel = higher quality
ie the picture isn't pixelized even though it's larger.
i believe the TOP of the line (the 5000 dollar one) is 15 megapixel

lol
yes, an EXTREMELY good price
generally, a fair price is just under 100 dollars per megapixel

Digital zoom just allows you to zoom in much in the same way you zoom into jpeg in photoshop, when you zoom in your picture becomes more pixelated. That's how I understand it.

My dad bought a 4 Megapixel camera, Cannon S45:

It's really not a big deal with high res. My camera shoots up to 1280 but it's kind of pointless because you really don't need that much.
I just stick with 1024 and it's fine. I think 3 or 2 is prolly enough.

I have a Canon Elph 3.2 mp w/ a 128mb card and it rocks. No problems at all, takes video, etc... Great camera for around $300. I'm sure you could find one maybe on EBay or something but I couldn't reccomend it more highly
//edit// don't spend 700 for a 2mp, I would cry. But I will sell you a 2mp for 700 if you're hellbent on throwing money away. ;)

I bought a Canon IXUS 400 a few weeks back. Stunning camera.. for me it's the perfect balance between a fun/serious camera. High megapixels (4m) but small and compact enough that it can go everywhere with you. Brilliant stuff! Takes great photos (Check the 'Malaysia piccy-wiccies' thread ;))

Those aren't bad. FujiFilm has the... well... "Fuji colours", which are a lot different then the famous "Canon colours", but I think Fuji is closer to reality than Canon sometimes. Anyway, whatever you choose (Fuji or Canon), it's good. :)

I got a Canon G2 about 6 months back - 4m pixels, full SLR features. I've been really pleased with the results - and they were doing a promotion when I got it :) - for an extra £50, I got a 1Gb microdrive which takes 512 highest resolution shots! :) :)

Mine's a Kodak something-or-other... Not very helpful, I admit. But it's a great camera (see pics of my stunning new car for proof ;) ). I'll find out the details of it...
[EDIT] OK, it's this one - http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQuerier.jhtml?pq-path=1155&pq-locale=en_GB [/EDIT/

Thanks a lot Kit, but that Kodak might be just a bit out of my price range although it looks really nice (I really like the sport mode)
Thanks to everyone for the suggestions.
Canon, Kodak, Fuji ... sounds like from what everyone has said, I'll be getting a good camera no matter what I choose.
Again - many thanks!
