ok, here's the deal, i've taken pictures of our boat from a bunch of angles, and want to make a drawing in 3d. i've never done 3d before, but i'd like to learn. what would be the best program to start out in?

Basically anything that can use pictures in background to work out a wireframe for your boat - i'd personnaly recommenc Cinema 4d because it's easy to use but there are plenty of other progs around - Maya, 3Ds, Rhino(?), Carrara2, Amapi, Lightwave...

what you have to do is set up 4 different windows and place the images in the background, and then turn the cameras to the right angles in each of the windows (the same ones you took the boat with) you can place a cube to help you figure out the angles first...

Check modeling tutorials with pictures on any 3d tut site....

you will need a picture of the front, the side, the top and back..........www.3dbuzz.com and search for car tutorial....I know i know you are doing a boat but it has the same principles and I recommend spline modelling.....also go to www.cgtalk.com and search their forum for the same tuts.
