Great movie, I recommend the **** out of it.
Not sure what else to say without giving too much away... It's a pretty original idea, and well put-together. You'll laugh. You'll cry. You'll be really attracted to the main actress in it. Go see it!

I have this on DVD but don't have the time to watch it yet, so busy. I'm waiting for the right time, I want it seen without any disturbance. Heard lots of good reviews about this movie.

I agree with Shane, it's an amazing film- I've seen it with my parents and with a group of friends and everybody has absolutely loved it, in fact I don't know anybody who did not love this film.

I saw this tonight with a lovely lady on my arm. It really blew me away. Such a great film, and such a well shot film too. I loved the cheesy bollywood dancing at the end, it was a really nice touch.
edit: Also the brother when he's wearing the 80s shirt and glasses just looked so ****ing awesome I wanted to be him!

I teared up. Wow, awesome, awesome movie. I just finished watching it, and I have to say, it's one of the most heartfelt movies ever. "A must see" is an understatement.

I thought it was ok, didn't deserve all the attention in my opinion. Though it was a good movie.

I thought the narrative was very interesting. Definitely helped make it more touching. It did make me wonder how realistic some of the hardships the characters endure are. Is this commenting on Indian life?

This was a great movie, it was actually the first movie where I've seen based on Grammys, as most of the time the other ones seems just like fluff to me, but I think it was done very well and it's only one of the few I'd recommend that everyone go see.

If you were surprised i would suspect something was wrong, there's always that one person that disagrees with the rest, even if everyone seems to think they are right. That person is (again) unsurprisingly me this time.
Also the child actors got payed 1200 dollars, lol@povery awareness, then ****ting on the actors who worked in the movie, that actually were from the slums the movie is depicting.

The movie was an inspired message of hope, and IMO, perfectly cast and executed.
(I'm definitely buying the DVD)
I also found the soundtrack to be overwhelming and beautifully scored.
See this movie in a theater with a state of the art sound system.

$1200 to Rupees is a significant amount of $$ ... and even if they don't convert it ... 1200 is more than enough money for a 10year old ... I don't know what you expect them to be paid.

Are you kidding me? They starred in a film that grossed 150 million+ dollars. I would expect them to be set for life, but i'm pretty sure i read they are still living in the slums.

Supposedly the producers and director set up trust funds for them, and are paying for their entire educations (out of pocket, it's not Fox Searchlight that's paying for it). And yeah, I also read that they were still living in slums, but now their government has supplied them with "brick and mortar" housing. I would agree that they didn't get paid nearly enough for their work, but I also doubt that Fox expected it to be such a massive hit. Since they did make ridiculous money off of those kids, you'd think they'd share the profit a bit, if only for the good PR.

well ole boy from Napoleon Dynamite, which grossed a lot of money as well, and he only got paid $1000 ... and there was no conversion there. You don't get paid based on how you "think" a movie will do, you get paid for the part you play. Anything after the launch and whatever, it's up to the producers and the CONTRACT that was signed by actors on how they will be rewarded ... if at all. That's how it works ... regardless of what country you're in.

This is true legally, but I'm just talking about the morality of letting a kid that helped you make $150 million sleep under a tarp.

Yeah, I don't think anybody would have ever complained about their initial pay if the movie hadn't been such a huge success. It's just the shock of seeing someone walk the red carpet at the Oscars, and then reading that they still live in the slums. But either way, I definitely think they deserve more than they seem to have gotten.

The movie was good, whether I'd give it 8 oscars I don't know. It was well acted, really good script - I was a bit let down by the ending. I'm not saying I wanted a twist but...someone dying ... maybe?
What can I say, tragedy thrills me whatever flavour it may be. Like killed by the husband, drowned by the ocean, shot by his own son....ahem.
I think this only won 8 oscars because it was actually quite good, which is a darn sight better than any of the other tripe that came out in 2008. What a disappointing year for film.
Can anyone recommend anything thats not bad from last year?
