Making a sidescroller, NEED HELP

hey fellas, im trying to make a game like sonic the hedgehog, or mario and i need help
i cant find a tutorial anywere for it all i need is someone to show me a tutorial for it,
i'm really stumped any help would be greatly appreciated.

I feel I should point out something, if you're making a mario style game, you can find several tutorials around the place, NG, these forums, flashkit etc. There's even a pre-made engine on these forums (search for Citrus Engine).
However, for something along the lines of Sonic, you're going to need rather more complex programming, especially when it comes to the physics side of the engine. Once again, you can find a few tuts on this, and there's even a fair amount of info in various ActionScript books out there.

haha, i've always wondered how sonic did the loop-dee-loops, do they bother with actual physics or do they just cheat?
