View Full Version : Stretched skin

sintax321
August 15th, 2003, 01:01 PM
I'm doing a site for a tattoo artist and i need to make a large section of stretched out human skin. Needs to look like a tanning hide sort of stretched out and pined down. I've tried a couple ideas but nothing looks right.

Any ideas or tutorials that could help me?

Ya i decided to start looking for pictures of body suspension which is no treat. Some ppl do weird things to there bodys. I have found a couple pics that have the shapes i want so i'm going to try to blend them together to make the base.

I'm still open to any toehr suggestions.

DDD
August 15th, 2003, 07:23 PM
it looks pretty sick just because I know it is skin......it looks good but it does not look like it is tense....like it is stretched to the point it is going to rip.

sintax321
August 15th, 2003, 07:27 PM
Ya i'll be tweeking that when i blend and tone it. Adding more streatch lines and making it look tighter. ANy body know of soem good teniques to blend this?

I figure i'm gong to desaturate all of it then work form there. Get the levels matching then starte to blend it together.

Any suggestions or ideas are welcome.

hey that looks pretty good! the first one was just nasty though...gave me the chills. i think redViper knows some good skin colouring technics cause he has done some good face manips. if not then i would use the colour selection in PS and just pick a colour from one of the other ones.

sintax321
August 15th, 2003, 10:48 PM
ya it looks like a total mess hen u first put it together. NOw that it is blended it looks way better. I want to make sure i have it realy good before i color it.

Bah, too bad I just gave all my fathers leather to my uncle. He had some tanning hide that would have been perfect to scan in, but alas, I no longer have it. Sorry :(

The black and white image looks good though, just need to add the color and stuff :)

sintax321
August 15th, 2003, 11:00 PM
Ya i was trying to find pictures of tanning hide or stretched leather but couldnt' find any. IT was easy to find the body suspension pics though and it should work our the way i want it.

Once the color an the nails are in it should looke really good.

hey sin your copyright pattern how did you do that? I have been trying to do the for quite sometime........The skin looks tight man

sintax321
August 16th, 2003, 12:11 AM
I just opend up a new PS file 100x100.
Then typed in my name and rotated a bit.
Then i croped down.
Leave the background transparnet and go Edit>Define Pattern. Then jsut make a new layer on the image u wnat it on.
Then go Edit>Fill and form "Use"select "pattern" then select "custom pattern".

Your pattern should be in there and then u can overlay it or reduce the trasparancy.

Thanks for the compliments. Nails are just about in.

Now i have to do the background. I'm thinking of doing wood or something. Want to make a really nice boarder that ties in nice and resizes for 1024x768. Then some shadows. Then some mock content and it is done.

What ya think?

those nails look great, did you make em? anyway its all coming together. ok now for a background right? i picture some wood planks, but grunge it up a ton so they look real dirty...

DDD
August 16th, 2003, 10:56 AM
I would say grungy concrete. I can make you a nice concrete texture and you can grunge it. Let me know if you want me to make ya one.

I have no clue what u are talking about?

Ya i took a pic of my patio deck. It has some nice wood that is petty beat up. Still playing wiht it though. I have to keep tweeking it casue it looks like it is floating on top of it. Instead of going all wood behind i think i might boarder it with some metal or concrete.

If i cna't get the wood looking rightthen concrete is my next try.

Right now i'm testing some old looking grungy drywall. see what that looks like. I think the wood i was using was a bit too real. The skin it self i feel has a sureal look to it. Kind of like a Norman Rockwell painting.

sintax321
August 16th, 2003, 04:50 PM
ok so here is the first wood bg i'm tinkering with. I'm thinking i'm going to make it a lot darker and grunge it up. What u guys think of it so far. I know it kind of looks like it is flating ontop right now but i'll be fixing that with some shadows.

so far so good?

there is now, sorry guys. I've already decied against wood and if ido use it it will be a smaller part. Wood makes it look more country and more like a cow hide then human skin. So wood is kind of out.

DDD
August 16th, 2003, 05:06 PM
that is exactly whayt I was about to say.....If you add some hair and folicles and some skin lines then maybe you can use wood......I think concrete or stucco since it is for a tatooist

sintax321
August 16th, 2003, 05:07 PM
Ya i'm looking for the right piece of drywall or something. That or liek a surgical meateal looking piece and i'll grunge it up.

yeah metal might be cool, like with blood or something...hehe.

that still looks good, just doesnt fit :-\

sintax321

Thanks for the offers 3d-iva but I'm almost complet with my won texture. We will see how this one looks.

He is a tattoo artist so figured skin is his canvas so why not make his site out of the same thing. He also mad it very clear he wanted some thing dark and grunge, something really out there.

He also told me he is a large fan of H.R. Giger's art work http://www.hrgiger.com/ (not the site but the art he does) and of Tool videos. I figured this would be a very fitting layout that he would really like cause it is his personal site.

The idea came to me when the sunburn on my back started to peal.

mdipi
August 16th, 2003, 06:57 PM

"Now see if you can snatch the pebble form my hand young grasshopper":asian:

Ya i went into the garage and took out some shingle nails. Then i put them in a vice and banged a couple wiht a hammer. THen i stuck them into a peice of foam. Then snaped of a few pics and croped out the best ones. Then i filtered them a bit so the refelctions would mathc the skin tone. Ta da

Is it too late to consider trying hooks or something pulling the skin tight or tighter. Not that what you've done doesn't look cool but I get a jersey contractor gone postal kinda vibe with those flat head nails. If the skin were more suspended looking instead of tacked against a wall, I think I would feel less Hannibal Lecter and more Human Canvas.
I think chains and some kinda hooks or clamps could look cool, nice contrast between organic skin and cold dark metal, sorta Goth to me.
I like the concept a lot, these are just images that came to mind when I saw the work.

sintax321
August 17th, 2003, 02:37 AM
i was thinking of that but It needs to fit for at the least 1024x768 and 800x600 resolution. using cahins was going to make it harder so i went with the nails.

My first hard drive had 2 partitions, which I am glad for because my 2nd partition was a backup of a lot of things and it definitely came in handy.

I did it via DOS mode in Win98 (2nd Ed)... if I remember correctly it gives you the option to partition when you reformat... but I could be wrong, it has been a very long time since i've done it.

DDD
August 17th, 2003, 11:28 PM
you can always use norton ghost to back up a full 40gb hd to like 2 gb then place that somewhere in a partition then you can restore files as you need them. Thats how I do it. And I back up regularly (scheduled)
