Because the goal of this contest is to have circles move around in clever and interesting ways, you must only use circles. No other shapes or images will be allowed.

What about the gradient in the background of your sample entry?

Is it just an AS 3.0 competition? Otherwise all of us lowly and impoverished AS 2.0 users will have to sit this one out.

^That's a good idea glosrfc, AS3 only should be added to the guidelines.

I've updated the guidelines to reflect these two issues.

I put the gradient as a color thing, but I'll clarify in the guidelines that background colors are cool.

glos - AS2 is fine as well :)

Are you considering actually stopping people from creating something in AS1? As you probably know anyway, AS2 is compiled to AS1 anyway, so a decision to limit entrants to only AS2 and AS3 would be totally arbitrary. :P

Besides, most people who claim to be using AS2 just use AS1 with type annotations…

Anyway, thanks for clarifying the background options. :)

Oh, I wasn't planning on banning any AS1 projects. I don't really care which version of AS people use. Sen could probably use AS4 if he wanted to!

I was just curious to know if our canadian friend was thinking of using AS1.

Ya I might, it's so easy and I don't do a lot of serious coding anymore.

Now I wish I kept my late entries from FXP05 and rolled them over to this contest.

Is there a good way to post swfs? We can zip them, but its nice to be able to see the entries quickly. Is there any place to post them externally so the security of the forum isn't compromised? I might be able to set up an uploader in the next week for the contest on my server if it would help.

So, do we have to code everything that goes into our projects? I mean, are we allowed to use particle engines (like Flint (http://flintparticles.org/)) or physics engines (like APE (http://www.cove.org/ape/))? I'm just curious; I don't really intend to use on of those.

Sure, feel free to. As long as it is something that you did (no 3rd party code, etc.), then it is all good.

SirDuke - unless it is a library that comes as a part of a Flash install, then no.

Not sure if i have time to do an entry, but i'll try. One question though. Is external actionscript classes ok, or does it all have to be done on the timeline? Obviously i am referring to external actionscript classes that we wrote ourselves, not libraries/engines or other peoples' work.

Sure - do whatever you want :)

To address this, I modified the guidelines to show that tweens are allowed. You can tweeen either on the timeline or via code if you want.

I guess, similarly, this should include other transformations as well - scaling/skewing (= ovals) or even 3D rotation as available in FP10 ...?

Does this sound reasonable?

Circles that are skewed or transformed or 3d-rotated as part of the animation/user-intearction are OK, but avoid using ovals as part of the design itself.
