Well, my parents got me an 8x6 Wacom Intuos for Christmas and I finally got a chance to use it yesterday. I came up with a couple variations on the same basic picture.

Which do you like better? Why? What would you do to improve them? Any tips to make my overall drawing style better?

Don't hold back if you have constructive criticism, harsh or not. This is pretty much my first drawing with a graphics tablet, so I realize it isn't perfect, but I'd like to do my best to improve.

Thanks,
Cody

None of those is good. They're lacking detail, knowledge and skill. You just need more practice, without the Wacom or not. Get yourself a good book about human anatomy or simply try to copy faces from photos for a start. The more often you do it, the better you get.

^ Harsh, but true. You really need to get a grasp of the basics. A wacom tablet is fun, but the fastest way to improve your art is to learn with pencil and paper. It will improve your strokes, confidence, and understanding of lighting.

Also as boring as it sounds you simply can't get by without a good knowledge of anatomy. Get a book, or download the Loomis book linked at the top of this post http://forums.penny-arcade.com/showthread.php?t=59420 It's free, and an excellent resource.

aside from the above remarks, there is no detail or definition, looks like gaussian blur. lighting isn't horrible.

also, im jumping on the darkmotion party wagon and reiterrating the practice drawing in general... the tablet is just a tool... paper before puter etc.

actually i've been on the party wagon forever, just didn't want to give DM the satisfaction of knowing it.

attached is the party wagon w/ moonroof and obligatory pedobear.

As for technique, yes I agree. Your stroke and everything could use some polishing. From a art standpoint, art is what you make it. This could very well end up being your own style of art.

Thanks for the comments guys. I downloaded the Loomis books and searched the interenet for as many anatomy and basic drawing resources as I could find. I'm going to take some time to try and read through all of that, while still practicing (especially copying from pictures to start). Hopefully at some point I'll have better drawings for ya'll to critique :D

Thanks again for the help,
Cody
