sick of hearing the buzzword 'microsite' in meetings, so after a rant one of my colleagues found this ^



ME: So you want a site then;
Marketing: Well, no not a site. We NEED a 'microsite'...
ME: Right, so it'll just be a small, maybe, fun application and a single page then?
Marketing: Well, no. It'll need to be a lot of templates, a lot of pages, some image galleries, and also news/events pages and branches.
ME: so what's micro about this site then?
Marketing: .....

Guess I'll be setting font size to 0.02em and making sure all GIF's are under 14 bytes in wieght then..

anything that's punted about in a meeting with a marketing department, where little or no meaning is attached to the word that's mentioned about a gazillion times, is a buzzword.

Doesn’t microsite contain much meaning? It seems to have a very specific definition, to me at least.

To be honest, after calming down, and reflecting somewhat, it would appear that the project we're commencing would satisfy the term really. It's going to be a subdomain of our main site for an internal client who has major outside interests, and is going to comprise a lot of things that we wouldn't normally offer an internal client, such as revised main styling, revised galleries/news/events etc.

Think my main reason for posting yesterday was the amount of times the word was mentioned, and a need to vent my spleen. :2c:
