The fact that it starts running the moment you turn on the program makes it seem less like a illustration tool and more like a artsy flash app. I like it anyway, but I'm not sure how I'm expected to use it.

The fact that it starts running the moment you turn on the program makes it seem less like a illustration tool and more like a artsy flash app. I like it anyway, but I'm not sure how I'm expected to use it.

It's not necessarily meant to be just another illustration tool. It doesn't work the way a traditional tool does (as seen). You don't click and hold to draw, you don't have brushes, no measurements with tools, etc. It is a bit of a artsy flash app, but it does have a purpose.

It isn't meant to be a generalized design app for everyone, and that's because we have plenty of those. We don't need anymore. It's time that we start narrowing our field to make more obscure operations a little bit easier. To create a piece of line art like this, with color shifting, and different equations, and such could be a huge task (or at least a tedious one) using illustrator or photoshop. This lets you do it in almost no time at all. At first, to some people, it may seem like "What do I need this for?", but after playing with it a bit, some people will find that it's invaluable in certain cases.

If it helps 1 designer do something that would've taken hours otherwise, then it has served its purpose. I think it will help more than that though.

And it starts automatically so new people will get the hang of how it works. The whole concept of "Don't hold your mouse down, this will follow your steps with easing..." may be confusing to a designer that's used to using a pen and brushes.

Thanks for the input ! :D

The "Export To Illustrator" demo on my blog demonstrates this if you need further explanation.

Basically, you launch illustrator.. Then go to File-> Scripts -> Other Script and find the JSX file (on your desktop) and open it.

It should create a new layer in your existing file, then put your lines on that.

Also note than you can export these as PNGs as well ( if you don't need illustrator files )
