Metal Texture Battle Anybody?

well, wat ya gutta do is make a metal texture ONLY with photoshop. This is way easy and is aimed at noobs. it shouldnt take very long. but some1 else can decide how long it goes for.:D:-\ :beam:

Khemical, I personally don't think there'd be much competition for a metallic texture, you can only do so much, creativity and such isn't used much in this type of work.

totally PS (although I do have a plethora of good brushes)

here's the psd if you want (rightclick-saveas): http://oliphony.online.fr/metallish.psd - it's 3 meg so take a nice cup of coffee before starting the d/l

there are no 'tricks' to do it, I used a gradient, added lots of noise, motion blur (horizontal), added some lighting (filters>render>lighting or something like that), used a brush with dodge or screen (can't remember cause I 'Ctrl-E'ded to the previous layer), then on another layer some clouds, changed the contrast of the clouds, played with the filters...

then I made lines on a separate layer, duplicated it and smudged the 2nd layer, and added some bevel-emboss to the first...

nuthin' complicated =)

Pom is this good enough for battle? altho m sure that amazing entry by mlkdesign will make it really difficult for other( mlk, can we have a tute plz?), lets make it plain texture as cooper, me and mlkdesign have already designed.

ok TUTORIAL done (http://mlkdesign.online.fr/tutorials/metaltexture/). Took me a whole afternoon to do, a few biscuits and a nice headache so be nice, even if it sucks =).
Oh and it might be a bit suckier than the first texture but here's my second entry (the one that was given birth by the tutorial)

I've taking the idea a little further and made a kirupa-header and footer with a rusty metal texture.

BBatt's texture really rocks, i don't see any metal in it either, but it has this underworldish-lava-pit-thing going.


hmm I tried and tried and tried... but I really cant get that bevel in my texture!
It only bevels the outer edges instead of the tiles in my pic..
I tried selecting all the separate tiles, but it still just bevels the texture's outer edges :(
