well about Avril - I like her. I saw the "gonna meet a rock star" show with her on it and I couldnt belive how nice she was. I have seen a few of em but none of the other artists were as nice as she was. It was like Avril mader her her best friend for the day - the fan was just awestruck. It's stuff like that, that make me like her.

Even if I dont like a lot of her music I can appreicate it. I just think her as a person more than makes up for the short comings as an artist - IMO anyway.

good call, she is the definition of mainstream. It's ironic that she is a conformist by being rebellious because rebellious is the cool thing to be. I'll agree that she's cute, in a fourteen and goofy kind of way, but I'd be more apt to give her a quarter to go to the candy store than ask her out.

Being rebellious isn't cool, it's being yourself that's cool. It's not conforming to everything you see in magazines, and on TV, and in print ads all over.

I don't wear American Eagle, I don't like Express, and I refuse to step in an A&F store for any reason. I hate designer clothes in general, but that doesn't mean I'm rebelling.

Getting back to what you said, I think the only reason being "rebellious" is cool is because the mainstream people realized how stupid they look dressing in the same exact stuff as everyone else. And if you notice now, TONS of "pop" people are wearing chains from their belt loops just for show, when only a short time ago people like me were made fun of for having our wallets on a chain (in my case, also a pocket watch).

Avril didn't choose to be pop, mainstream made her pop. There was this new thing out that everyone wanted to be because she IS hot no matter what people say. "I want to be hot," people said, so now people are trying to dress/be like her.

Very true, and that's the point I was trying to make in not so many words. You can't be outside the norm of mainstream pop when the entire genre is representative of the proverbial sell-out of the music industry. I do think that avril came out with her own style, ballsy and fearless, and she made a huge impression on the pop music industry, but regardless of her intentions, she became pop music as it became her. That's the irony of it. I completely detest the entire thing. It's rare that I listen to anything written in the last ten years when it comes to rock.
