no... you need to convert it to mpeg format and then to vcd, which takes a while and uses about 3 cds.

They did, however, come out with a dvd player that also plays divx in europe. Hopefully they'll start selling that in america :)

DVD uses MPEG-2 coding, and DivX can be compared with MP3 for sound: minimal quality loss and filesize. To play a DivX movie with a DVD player, your DVD player has to be DivX enabled. As sushis said, there is indeed a DVD player that plays DivX movies too. It was reviewed in a magazine that I read lately, I should have a look at it :)

Also, your DVD player needs to be relatively new because not all DVD players play VCD.

Most DVD players will play VCD. The older ones can't read a burned disc. Thats why I had to buy a separate CD player...

In any case, VCD is not nearly the quality of divx. SVCD somes a little closer, but unless you are planning on spanning three CDs, the quality is hard to achieve with regular VCD. You can find some software and guides and stuff over at http://www.doom9.org

Cheers!

I feel your pain blastboy!
Div-x is a special format. It still registers the files as .avi's but they are encoding in the div-x format, meaning you will need a VCD player with the Div-x format. There used to be an adapter for the psone that let youplay video cd's. That might be one way to do it, although i doubt you will be able to use div-x.

I think the chepest alternative for you is to buy a new video card with TV-out. They are not that expensive and it means you wont have to worry about new formats comming out, because you can simply download new drivers for your PC from the web.

woah b-boy! thats a lot of info! Anyways, just thought of somthing ithink there are a few places who chip DVD players so you can watch import films. If you find one, maybe they can chip it to play vcds?
