Yes we know you are a geek. You're here on Kirupa.com and if you're like me you spend way too much time here.

So what things do you like to do that are not geek related? Like I can think off the top of my head RegGolgi likes to fish...

Just trying to get to know the world, one random person at a time.

** Edit **I remembered that's his name and the sentence is a little weird without the .com

By proper English football, I mean what Americans call 'soccer'. :)

I play right midfield. :beam:

It seems that there's a bit of confusion with soccer and football. To me, soccer and football is the same. Some of you see soccer as the sport with the round ball, and football with the pointy (mostly brown) ball. Well, what is football to you guys, is called "rugby" to me :beam:

Hope I didn't create any more confusion :P

Yes football, futbol, soccer... it's all very confusing.

I play Proper English football on an indoor and outdoor men's league teams.

I'm also a bit of a fitness nut. I work out everyday or so and know what I eat. Like you know all those nutrition facts on the side of the package... yeah I read that stuff.

I do sprint distance triathlons.

I surf when I can. (Ocean is required, not keyboard)

neat thread!
I play guitar - just got a twelve string a couple days ago!!
I play Ice Hockey - Ironic because I live in the desert of Arizona
I play keyboard - started in 8th grade
I hit the bar - on the weekends
I sometimes play foozball - I used to like everyday in 99.
Golden Tee - video golf - just as addicting as kirupa.com
Watch airplanes - I know it's dumb, but I found this place at the end of the runway where the planes are so low you can hit them with a rock (never tried, I think that would be real stupid!!).
Cook - I like making Itialian food - good stuff
Xbox - now that I won that Xbox, I'm addicted to that too - but that is kinda geekee huh.
Work on cars - not so much a hobby, but a crappy car that I have to fix quite often, but I enjoy it.
Write books - I've only written one, but I plan to write more.
Bartend - It's a job and a hobby and takes away some of the geekiness.
Girls - what can I say, I'm a scorpio..:P
Massage - an old girlfriend tried to get me to go to the school because she said that I was good at it, but never did; I guess I can consider that a hobbie?...but I don't do men...
Roadtrips!! - Living in Phoenix, you go on a lot of roadtrips to San Diego, LA beaches, Las Vegas, Flagstaff AZ(snow), and Mexico.

I think that's it. Whew.

Street Biking is fun. I play badminton a lot. Just got off the varsity team because I graduated. Soccer, especially at midnight in the local park. Beach a lot. San Diego is good for that. Hang out with friends, see movies (all of my friends work at AMC so I get in free :) ) play lots of N64, sleep and eat. The last 2 are my favorite.

Okay, I'm not a stranger to Karaoke, I'm usually really drunk though and I only do a couple songs that are funny like Ode to my car - Adam Sandler and Just a Gigalo - David Lee Roth

This is one of the worst pics of myself, but it's great for a laugh. I used to be a band in 96 so, when I'm drunk, I can really get into it...why am I putting this here!!

In my non-geek time, if I ever have such times, I prefer reading. My most recent endeavors after having finished The Complete Volumes of Sherlock Holmes (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0553328255/) are to finish Who Says Elephants Can't Dance (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0060523794/) , half-way through Swimming Across: A Memoir by Andy Grove (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0446679704) , and one CD left in the audio version of Good to Great (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0694526088/)

Besides that, I play WarCraft 3: The Frozen Throne (http://www.battle.net/war3/ladder/W3XP-player-profile.aspx?Gateway=Azeroth&PlayerName=bombay.sin(x)) with NaliWarCow (the same one who drew the disturbing pic of 28 and a vicious man-eating tiger-donkey (thx CP!)). I also try to make sure I watch every episode of Seinfeld, Everybody Loves Raymond, King of Queens, Becker, The Practice, Yes Dear!, Modern Weapons, Sworn to Secrecy, and anything on the National Geographic/Animal Planet/Discovery/TechTV that I usually miss.

Bah - how could I have forgotten the two things that I truly hate (and have been hating for the past two years): working out and running (alternating daily).

Edit 1 thx to Thor: I signed up for Computer Club, but for some reason the club never met the first time, and by the time I found out the place the club was going to be held the second time school, I was kidnapped into the most useless clubs; namely FBLA (Future Biz Leaders of America) and Key Club (which is were most of the incriminating pics of nali and I were taken).

QuickEdit: I hope you are happy now RB...I for one am not :)

Cheers!

I thought it was Alpo's Canned Premium Chow for Mountain Huskies =) It gives your skin and hair a natural shine (and softness)....not that I would know or anything. Even though I have noticed the more I eat at the school cafeteria, the faster I am able to run, the higher I am able to jump, and the better I become at playing frisbee.

thoriphes
August 2nd, 2003, 09:16 PM
wow, kirupa (jeez, i keep thinking you have a real name that's not 'kirupa'), you lead a very simple life. i like that :thumb:

I would've been more outgoing had i gotten my license earlier. now that i have it, i have to wait another week for my darned insurance to kick in. I really have no life. I would rather go out with friends to party and whatnot instead of sitting at this here computer or watching a movie by myself; however I find myself doing those things anyway, as much as I want to get out. It's real sad sometimes. I'd pace around my room trying to figure out what to do that night, but before i would know it, it would be late in the evening already.

at college, i didn't much like going to parties with my friends because they were absolute ****s when they got drunk. i still got out though. drunk girls are the most interesting people you'll meet ever. I never took advantage of that, though and i never would. I could get really smashed, but i'd still keep my ethics.

i am/was in a band once. we played covers and played at about 5 gigs; nothing too big, friend's house, school, birthdays. it was the greatest feeling. not once did i get embarassed to play in front of everyone. as a matter of fact, my first gig was at school, i started playing the first song, but i didn't hear what i was playing. i was lead guitar, but our vocalist also played guitar, so i was safe. I looked around confused and wondered what was going on, I checked my guitar and everything and looked stupid. then one of my friends in the crowd gallantly turned up the volume on my amp. that was it. I felt so stupid for not checking that first.

i didn't do much at high school, i did crew for my first or second year but left to handle some other matters. I was going to do ice hockey but my parents didn't want me to, that pissed me off to no end. I was going to do lacrosse, but same thing. GAH! I ended up playing piano for the choir *cough*loser*cough* which was ok. I played at concerts, church, the homeless, whatnot. I was in the French club for about 15 minutes (just to get in the picture for the yearbook). i was also in the video production club, where we did crazy stunts, like jackass to a lesser degree. we got one of my friends' hand stuck in a vending machine, which we videotaped as he squirmed about trying to get free. good times. good times.

well that's about enough of me. i'll leave it up to you guys to decide whether or not what i did was non-geeky.

kirupa
August 2nd, 2003, 09:20 PM

I'm fortunate, SF has a lot of free concerts throughout the summer/fall, plus there are quite a few I have to pay for, but I still must go se them. Ben Harper is the 15th.......

Coppertop

DariusMonsef
August 3rd, 2003, 03:20 PM
This is just my 2 cents, but I think Nerds are mathmatically and scientifically smart. They spend hours trying to solve quantum physics equations. Nerds are also socially retarded.

Geeks are computer smart. They spend hours trying to photochop pictures of people into other photos. And while they tend to still be socially retarded, it is not as severe as nerds.

P.S. Geeks can be nerds too, and nerds can also be geeks.

Most of my hobbies are geeky.

In high school I biked alot - kind of had a little gang going there cruising the 'hood in the evenings and causing mischief. We also played sports almost every day after school, either Football, basketball ("white boys" full-contact basketball), ping pong, wiffle ball or street hocky. Good times.

In college I was too busy helping other people (or being asked to help) to really have much free time, though fridays or the weekends sometimes including drinking with some friends or going out.

Now, I work full time, dont drink anymore, lost most of my friends from college (or HS for that matter) as a result of my apparent ability to select friends who like to move out of state after finishing school, am not often physically capable of doing much anything too active such as biking, and spend most of my free time on the puter or watching movies - possibly the geekiest non-geek "hobby" there is.

ok ok, for serious now, :P

well i dont have many HOBBIES that are not geeky

(btw i think a geek can be someone who reads comic books or something whereas a nerd is obsessed with being punctual and smartass at school :P, basically)

anywayyy
i have the all time geekiest hobby.... of all time, ever... EVER
which is of course WH40K

or warhammer, yes i know im partly, or mostly ashamed

i mainly do it for the artistic part of painting and moddeling, and im actually pretty good, but thats beside the point

ok next would be MMORPG, WoW to be specific

well im not sure if this is considered geeky but i do alot of art and film makeing with my film buddies

apart from that im pretty "normal" u know go to parties and do stupid stuff that means basically nothing a wek later.. meh its fun

good thread btw, keep it coming ppl :P

Golf: I'm around a 7 handicap
Hockey: Pretty good at it.
Soccer: Played rep for most of my childhood, still am pretty good at it
Running: Used to be able to run a mile in under 5 minutes, now I can only do a mile in under 7, but I'll get it back down again ;)
Weight training: Don't lift much, but I'm in good enough shape.

Other assorted sports as well. Generally everything I do off the computer is 0% geeky, and everything I do on the computer is 100% geeky :)

Ahmed, I really think that all depends on your approach/view of it because..

trace(typeof("geek") == typeof("nerd")); //outputs 'true'
