I have imported all my images to the dreamweaver stage and now I'd like to add some layers on top, for example button, text and swf's.

I'm new to Dreamweaver could someone please give me a few pointers?

<div> tags will add layers. Or if you are using design view, you can drag out divs using the tool bar at the bottom. But from the sounds of your terminology you may need to learn a little css as well. Dreamweaver has some pretty cool built in tutorials just press "f1" to get to all the goodies.
