**No real spoilers here unless you have no idea what/who Batman is.**
A week ago my friend and I purchased The Dark Knight tickets and we arrived an hour and a half early to make sure we had good seats. We joked about how the movie might end being horrible with some really bad ending like what we had seen in Indiana Jones 4. Finally after 90 minutes the movie began.
The movie was brilliant from the beginning, from the first 30 seconds of the opening scene you could just tell it was going to be amazing...and it was the entire way through.
The acting was brilliant and was what made this movie so great. Heath Ledger totally crushed Jack's version of the Joker and though I doubt he will win an Oscar, I definitely would bet a nomination. I could be a fan boy and go on and on about the Joker and his awesomeness, but you need to see it for yourself. Christian Bale was a great Batman of course, but what surprised me was Aaron Eckhart's performance. He did a superb job and you can tell he put a lot of effort into Harvey Dent / Two Face's character.
The costumes / CGI were also very very well done. The Joker / Two Face were just... wow. If you thought the Joker looked awesome in the trailers, just wait till you see Two Face.
The only bad part of the movie was some plot holes where you can tell things were cut out - but it's a superhero movie and is almost expected. Overall the plot was good, and I really like the way Christopher Nolan is going with Batman. The characters are rich and you can really see them develop between the first and second, and I hope it continues into the third.
For a superhero movie, I'd give this a 9.5/10
Overall I give this movie a 9/10.

I loved it also. That's actually saying a lot, since I usually never enjoy "comic book films." This one felt very different in some aspects than the typical comic book mold. I loved Ledger's performance as Joker. The mannerisms, the quirks, the idiosyncrasies, always wetting his lips when talking. A great character.

Seconded on all points. A+ movie. Totally recommended.
EDIT: I feel like I'm robbing you all by not putting out there how AMAZING Heath Ledger's performance was. I honestly can't say I've been so impressed with anybody's pure screen-presence as much as I did his. Everything that the Joker should be, he was in this movie.

Second everything said in this thread.
Apart from Chris Bale. Didn't think he did too good a job in this one, especially since he was spectacular in the previous batman movie.

@^ yeah I thought that too. This movie should be called Batman: Starring the Joker. It felt like Bale wasn't given that much screen time, which was really disappointing.

I'm waiting for the DVD. Going to the movies while I'm staring a recession in the face doesn't seem economically sound. :|

Yes. This movie was incredible. Everybody needs to go see it as soon as possible.
I had to pick up a friend from the airport right before the movie, so we missed probably the first 10 minutes (the entire joker bank scene, dammit), so that kinda sucked. But that's just an excuse for me to go see it again.

I'll be lame and drop in the review I wrote :):
3 hours of delicious film, and I savored every second of it. It felt like I didn’t pay enough for a ticket to something so enjoyable (oh and not to mention it was on the IMAX screens). It’s so much grittier and dark than the first of the series. Christopher Nolan tested the waters with Batman Begins to great success and it gave him the grounds to induce an even more malevolent tone in The Dark Knight.
It’s a very mature sequel, exploiting the ghastly society Gotham City had been left in where the last film tied off. I really appreciate how the characters feel real. They don’t need super powers or any supernatural influences to be engaging; it’s all to do with the strong contrast established in the battle of ideals. Structurally, it felt like the film ended 2/3 through when The Joker was caught for the first time. You get a delightful surprise with another hour of darkening twists, as the experience becomes increasingly bitter for the souls of Gotham City. It moved at a dynamic pace and the shorter time-line allowed for the time to expand into a length which felt like a documentation of a real time event.
Heath Ledger’s performance as The Joker was outstanding. His portrayal of the character has got to be the most sick, twisted and humorous villain I’ve watched for a long time. I was instantly sold when The Joker performed the most horrendous and casual magic trick involving a disappearing pencil and the eye socket of a bouncer. Don’t want to give away too many of his hilarious and creepy antics, but watch out for his stint in a nurse costume with Two-Faced Harvey Denton. Of course, Christian Bale was amazing. So glad that they canned Katie Holmes for Maggie Gyllenhaal.
Explosions, sweet vehicles, punch ups and guns. It’s got all of that awesome Batman testosterone, as well as the complications of gang warfare and internal identity struggle. Easily in my list of favourite recent movies. I enjoyed it a lot, and I know I’ll have to catch it again in the cinemas! The wait was well worth it.

Most 'highly anticipated' movies get hyped so much that all they can do is disappoint. TDK was, by all accounts, the perfect super hero film. my point form opinon:
-heath ledger not only did an amazing job as joker, he re-invented the character, his version rival's BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES' version of the joker. Forget even comparing Jack Nicholson to Heath ledger.
-Two-face is my favorite Batman villian because of his duality. I sympathize with every version of Harvey Dent, because at the core of the character/villian is a man who had been given the short end of the stick and is now throwing it back at everyone. Every comic with Dent/two-face in it is an intense study of the human psyche. Start reading comics.
-CG was superb. I am usually fussy with this, but I could barely tell.
-Art Direction. Who the hell created Dent/two-face?? they should be praised, over and over.
-story. Story was very well done, I loved how there wasn't any "here's a cool Idea that's so cool, it doesn't need explanation, or need to fit into what's currently going on"
-cinematography. Very well done as well. Begins had that orange/gold hue over it, which at first I wasn't digging but after watching the film I understood the reason, orange is a hazzard colour, and as you know, the end of the film had that panic/hazzard idea. The new film has a blue tone to it, without giving anything away, figure out what blue stands for.
-overall experience. I loved this movie so much. My favorite super-hero movie before this one was the crow, I loved that movie so much that I have a tattoo of the crow logo on my arm. Now I don't see myself getting a batman tattoo but I'm becoming mildly obssessed with this film just like I was with brandon lee and the crow.

I just saw it yesterday and I loved it. Great movie, very dark. The Joker was probably the best movie villain of any movie I have ever seen. His plans were always perfect and he was just so f***** crazy.
It had an entirely different feel than any other superhero movie I had ever watched, much darker and, in a way, more believable.
I did think it was funny that the local news station interviewed me before I went into the movie, asking me whether I thought it was too violent for kids and deserved an R rating. I obviously had no idea if it would be too violent or not, great reporting! :P

I'm the biggest Bale fan and I still have no excitment to see this movie. I'm sure I'm going to eat my words when I see it on DVD like I did with the last Bond flick. I just didn't care for Batman Begins though.
I just don't believe the hype on this.

I like it because it's not really a super hero movie. I mean, it's a movie about a superhero, but it's a drama and it can stand on it's own.
Not a fan of comic books in the slightest, so it's nice to see one of these movies break out of the shell they've been forced into by the mass production mindset they're currently trapped in.

Its all part of the plan...
Its all about the Joker, Ledger totally pwned all previous jokers.
 this movie and I'm a marvel fan who hates DC but Bats is the only DC character I like and this is the best superhero film evahr.
Iron Man was good but this can certainly be the best movie of the year IMHO.
Oh is anyone else excited about the Watchmen movie I was like ZOMGWTFBBQ when I saw the trailer

I don't like batman. Who picks a bat as their disguise - the most vile winged mammal on the planet.

Wow, what elegance.
With that said, I've never seen any Batman movie ever but everyone I ask says this is a really good movie so I'll check it out.

holy crap! Loved Watchmen back in the day...I heard that there was supposed to be a harry potter trailer during TDK but I never saw it...but man, I saw that Watchmen trailer (of course I saw it the day before on the official site: http://watchmenmovie.warnerbros.com/)
watchmen is going to be awesome. The trailer had scenes that were exactly how they looked in the comic...that's why I have confidence that this movie will be good.

I am a huge Christian Bale fan, but I thought he did something different to his voice as opposed to Batman Begins, because there was just something in that voice that didn't sound right.
But Ledger was amazing and I think people will be talking about him instead of Nicholson for years to come.

the movie was enjoyable, but i wouldn't say it was completely amazing...
i thought it felt kind of like two movies in one, with the second part kind of rushed (not going to specify exactly what i'm talking about so as not to spoil)
i felt like they kept using a lot of the same tricks too (ex: someone popping up unexpectedly where they shouldn't be) i got kind of tired of everyone being able to do that
don't get me wrong, still the best movie of the summer in my opinion. not worthy of any awards though

Seen this last night. Can't say I wasn't disappointed. 1/2 arsed parallels drawn on war on terror, bales "batman" voice, plot holes, not enough joker on screen (Ledger was absolutely superb and stole the show), the movie looked like it was cut to shreds to make a lower rating for the cinema (+1 for maximizing profit margins), wasted a good character at the end (people who have seen it know what I mean)... I still enjoyed it tho, its just not as good as people are making it out to be. Don't believe the hype.

Weee I'm seeing it on IMAX tomorrow as well !
I am interning at Framestore CFC who did the harvey dent (double face) and Hong Kong scene in 8k, so I have seen huge stills from the movie but not the movie yet. This is going to be good.

So I finally got around to seeing this movie for a second time. First time I saw it was opening weekend in theaters. STILL, this movie is completely awesome. Although the second time through I noticed little things here and there.
And to me it seems like they possibly had an ending change towards the end of production(?), because a few things didn't seem to flow as well as the first 1hr 45 / 2hrs. I don't know, maybe I'm just seeing/imagining things.
Regardless, second time through, I still give this movie a 9/10!

Maybe I'm a wuss but the thought of the Joker with knives, making smiles really freaks me out.
