Hi.
I want/need to get a new monitor, but I have basically no idea what to look for in a monitor :P Any advice would be great! I was thinking 20-24 inch, <£250, preferably something pretty multi-purpose, I don't do much gaming but I watch a lot of films, and design work.
Any advice would be great,
Thanks.

Got two of these sexy things on my desk right now :) Actually one is a older model 2407 and the primary is the new 2408, they looks exactly the same, but the 2408 I have noticed is sharper in colour/deeper blacks and has a hdmi input. :beam:

^That is a slick monitor too bad he only has 400USD to spend.
Hmm... I would say just look around dell. for your price range your not going to get a good 1920x1200 monitor so probably go for the 1680xsomething one.

Buy a CRT and save your money for a night out at a fancy restaurant.

^CRT's basically stop at 1280x1024 resolution lol and are massive.

^ Ahem, they're massive, but they have excellent color and are a lot less tiring on your eyes. (At least to me.) Also, my CRT runs perfectly at 1600x1200. :beam:

You might be able to find a 24" LCD for about $400, but it's going to be a TN Panel which is the worst of the 3 types. And since you said you want it to be multi-purpose and for design work, I would stay away from TN panels. For one, they're 6-bit, and they have extremely poor viewing angles.
The 2408WFP would be an OK option, but it is a wide-gamut monitor which would make it less than ideal for design work...not to mention a lot of people over at Hardforums seem to dislike it. They're also coming out with a new revision sometime in July, so I would even wait until that launches instead.

I have experience with Dell and Acer. My Dell CRT's brightness adjustment broke after 5 years of usage. My Dell LCD has been getting burned in images (not permanent) after 2 years of use. I've owned an Acer for over a year. Ive had no problems - no dead pixels - no burnage - no buttons/dials breaking.

yeah i went for a refurbished crt. £70, 22 inch viewable screen, and it runs at 1920 by 1440. The colour is better accuracy than any flat screen, and it's cheap as hell. If you have the desk space to hold one then CRTs are the best way to go if you have a limited budget.

^ :thumb2: It's great to find another CRT user! (I should start a "Social Group" for the cult of CRT'ers.)

Stupid hernia'ers, real men go with fused vertebra. (Note: I am kidding about that, I have some relatives who have had vertebra fused and know how much they go through.)
