View Full Version : Inline AS Tags

Would it be possible to make tags that put AS code inline with your paragraph text? So instead of:
Try using ActionScript Code:
flash.utils.getTimer();
it would be something like:
Try using flash.utils.getTimer();
And if we were really good, we could even make tags which link to the AS3 livedocs. So typing flash.utils.getTimer() (or whatever tage name) would link to http://livedocs.adobe.com/flash/9.0/ActionScriptLangRefV3/flash/utils/package.html#getTimer()
Just some ideas I thought were pretty schmancy.

I still think this is a good idea.

I'd just like to be able to edit my posts if I suck enough to not spot a type-o before I submit :angry:

Use the plain text editor.

I agree - this is a great idea. The problem with this is implementation and maintainance, but I will give this a shot once some of the other forum-related work has wrapped up :)

I still want my code tags! I type this out all the time, and it could easily be simplified to [ic] or something for incline code.

That should be easy! I will add that tomorrow ;)

I actually did a search for incline tag just to make sure it was a typo and not some newfangled phrase cool people use these days...to describe inline code :P

Time to start!
Thanks for the incline code option Kirupa!

Could you revisit this?

Agreed…
It would also be nice if [code] just used [php] except with the silly part that says "PHP Code:" removed.
this.highlighting is for(ActionScript:Okay "too")

Does using the PHP formatting mess with brackets/spacing? I remember something like that many years ago here when it was attempted, but I don't know if that was fixed later.

Hey you know what doesn't mess with brackets/spacing? Inline AS dictionary code tags :run:

Yeah you're right. Inline AS tags sound like a great idea.

What's up with that horizontal rule? It's not part of the post…
Is it some kind of inline AS tag?

That idea has already been ignored.

Horizontal rule sounds like a good idea. I'm currently swamped with work and travel, but when my schedule clears up a bit in the next few days, I will look into that :)

Maybe in 2015 we'll get incline AS tags :party:

No, its by 2012. And that's going to bring a new civilization. :P

I'm taking a wait-and-see approach for some of the bigger changes. If the world ends in 2012, it would be unfortunate to have spent time adding features that people won't be alive to see :(

I agree. I'm probably going to stop doing everything from now on.
I'm just kidding, I'll wait and see ;)
