Purely a theoretical question: having read the 3d stuff in "best of senocular", how would you go about hidden line removal? This is probably (erm...maybe) the only thing that would stop me being able to write a 3d-type walkthrough in AS.
One for the maths guys, methinks...

what do you mean by hidden line removal exactly?

I think he means removal of the lines you don't see (ones that are hidden(obscured) from view by other objects.)
You can remove all drawing API content from a clip with the MovieClip.clear() method. I think what most Flash 3d engines do is wipe all 3d content every frame and then redraw it.

yeah, you'd be redrawing either way to clear what you have - at least in most rendering since very little would remain constant.
If you can wait a couple of days, I should be finished with the 3D tutorial. It will be posted here, well kirupa.com, and cover that stuff starting with the very basics and getting into the more advanced (though nothing too obscure since Im trying to keep it easy to understand).
heres a sneak peek. (mind you this will be part of the more advanced topics covered)
