I wouldn't call it a precursor to emo, this is emo. A band known for their rock-heavy sound takes a step back and writes a moody masterpiece of love and death. This is exactly how emo started. It really is too bad that some bands have taken emo to the extremes which is what emo is the usual connotation it has these days.

Yeah that's a good point. When I think 'emo' I think of well educated 17 year olds with perfect teeth cutting themselves and bleeding onto their Nightmare Before Christmas tshirts while listening to the Used.
